From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

will the pros and cons of a light flywheel cancel each other out on a 1/4 track?

since a lighter flywheel hurts your launch, and it will help you accelerate fast, wont they cancel each other out?

like for example, you launch, but it's really slow...
then a few seconds later, you speed up and shift through the gears really FAST

lighter is better i would say unless you got some mad power to keep a heavy fly wheel

they don't make a lot of difference to start with.

nope not at all the main key is to help you get off the line quicker and get to your powerband quicker and keep it that way.

On my red Accord project, stock flywheel weighed 17 lbs. I have a 12 lb. flywheel installed in it and you notice it revs easier, but the drop of the rpms is not bad at all. I would say 12 lb. flywheel is a great balance for a daily driver that wants some performance. I have a 8.5 lb flywheel going into my white project Accord, I can not attest to that yet until it's driveable. I assume it to be more noticeable of a rpm drop when off the gas.

EDIT: The 8.5lb flywheel on white Accord is noticeably lighter than my red Accord 12 lb, however is still driveable. It's all in getting use to taking off from a stop, you have to coordinate your gas pedal/clutch pedal movements better. Once you get used to that, it is golden.

the zc came with a diaphragm that holds the throttle for 1 second between shifts. it's an easy fix for someone with dropping rpm worries.

it does drop more between shifts, but requires less power to get back to full speed

Having driven an 8lb flywheel, 12lb flywheel, and a stock flywheel at the drag strip, the 8lb one is near impossible to launch perfectly, and it's very unstreetable. The stock one is great on the street, easy to launch with, but slow to drop down to the right rpm for quick shifts making it a little jerky. The 12 pounder is a great compromise. There is a 12lb on in my prelude right now, and I love it. Super easy to get used to. Im going to stick with it.

there are no cons with a 12 pounder.

one thing i cant figure out is when i hit the clutch to take it out of gear, my revs kinda shoot up a bit and begin dropping.

correct, take your foot off the gas faster.

p.s. i tap the gas a tiny bit when i hit the clutch, too. i got used to the right force to give it so the RPMs shoot up a tad, and fall right in place at the exact time im in the next gear, ready to let go of the clutch...

im running a 9lb, daily, street, and love it... no complaints whatsoever... just wimpy launches sometimes if you try to just rev up and drop the clutch. its like UGHH cuz it feels like it just putzes out and doesnt accelerate. but still very easy to overcome by revving & slipping more! with a lighter flywheel you have to finess and play with the clutch more accurately to overcome the "cons" ... still, just something to get used to, i dont consider it a con at all

I have a 7lbs flywheel and its great for daily use it feels like OEM but better Acceleration. i don't need to rev any higher to go anywhere. but there is a downfall if your @ a stop and its a steep hill then you would need to rev a bit higher to move the car. but in all 7 lbs is for race application but its a good buy.

I have a 10lb XTD flywheel and love it.. the notice was night and day.. but like others have said normal driving take off is a little different.. But to me the only reason to have a lightened flywheel is to smash out those down shifts.. you can flick the RPMs up no problem..

oh also my mechanic warned me about this and it does happen some time. I get some vibrations from my flywheel.. you can hear it but besides that never had a problem.
