i want some input from those that are already boosted. what size charge pipes are u peeps running between the turbo and the intercooler?
i am using piping from an AEM cold air intake and a section of 2.5" U-bend pipe to fill in the gap between the end of the AEM pipe and the exit side of the intercooler.
i am planning on using 2" pipes from my turbo to the intercooler inlet. this is purely based on a hunch from what a coworker (w/a plumber day job) once told me. he made a air blow gun for us to blow down our work equipment with compressed air. i asked why he did not make a bigger hole where the compressed air exits and he told me the the velocity slows down as the pipe gets bigger. so, based on this information (whether it's true or not i dont know... ) i figured, it would be easier to fit 2" piping on the belt side of the engine bay, and that it would be better if the air velocity decreased as the charge enters the intercooler rather than the velocity decreasing right out of the turbo (using a 2"-3" transition coupler).
oh ya, something else i've been ideaing about. i was having issues figuring out my turbo to intercooler piping route. at first, i simply planned on removing the windshield wiper fluid reservior. but, if i leave my car out of the garage for a day, there is salt spray all over the car and windows (i live near the ocean). so i think i am going to use a hole saw to cut two holes in the reservior tank so that the 2" charge pipe can run right through it and then silicone the gaps. that way, i will use less U-bend material than trying to go under or around the reservior. on top of that, i was all irie the other night and probin' out and thought... charge pipe through the reservior would be the shiznit at the tracks. i can fill it with choke ice and some water before i leave my house to tracks. dat would be some cold charge pipes for a night of blasting down the 1/4 mile... po man's air-water preintercooler whatever...
give me some thoughts and feed back!
--but try to avoid the temption to flame, i try to use this forum as a resource to gain knowledge, to learn from everyone's wisdom, and to share these thoughts that pop into my head everytime i'm irie. i just want input from whoever wants to reply... pros or cons.
thanks every1
