Please DO NOT Post In The General Section

From this point on until otherwise briefed, posting in the general section of Performance Tech is prohibited. The only thing to remain here will be the stickies. We would just delete this section, but that would cause unintended results.

The majority of the threads created can appropriately be placed in one of the Performance Tech sub-forums or Technical; and the posting of them here is detrimental to the activity of said forums. If you have any questions about where you need to place your thread PM me or one of the other mods.

For the most part you all have caught on without this post, but there have been a few habitual offenders that forced me to say this.

Everyone will get a couple of warnings from here on out, after that I just start deleting threads.

Again if you have any questions, PM me or one of the other mods.

I still could be wrong, but from the info i've come across (from decently reliable sites) richer = higher egt.

hmm, i swear I read somewhere that leaner=higher egt's. hmm, time to do more research.

We'll get to the bottom of this...but still the timing is the more important reading off the egt. A/F should still be done with the wb

see, my understanding is that the less fuel that is introduced into the combustion chamber means the hotter it will burn for what reason I am unsure, but cars may be different because of the ecu that can recognize these differences, also exhaust temps may vary greatly in contrast to actual combustion chamber gases.

          As per "how stuff works"

A gasoline engine burns gasoline in the presence of oxygen (see How Car Engines Work for complete details). It turns out that there is a particular ratio of air and gasoline that is "perfect," and that ratio is 14.7:1 (different fuels have different perfect ratios -- the ratio depends on the amount of hydrogen and carbon found in a given amount of fuel). If there is less air than this perfect ratio, then there will be fuel left over after combustion. This is called a rich mixture. Rich mixtures are bad because the unburned fuel creates pollution. If there is more air than this perfect ratio, then there is excess oxygen. This is called a lean mixture. A lean mixture tends to produce more nitrogen-oxide pollutants, and, in some cases, it can cause poor performance and even engine damage.

I definitely see what antoine is saying there, i mean, if the mixture is too rich, all that unburned fuel is entering an already hot exhaust stream, and it burns on the way out as well...
But they always teach in school, leaner is hotter and richer is colder.... but thats referring to overall engine temps, not specifically egt's

              ok, bumping this thread up!!!

I got a question or actually i just wanna make sure i got this shit right.

Basicly to tune safely i would need a wb and an egt gauge right?

Now to keep my engine from exploding i would need to keep the afr's somewhere around 12:1's right?and i would want air intake temp to be somewhere from 80-100 degrees and my egt's at 600-700 degrees idle/partial thorttle and 750-800 degrees WOT.Now i adjust those values via uberdata by messing with timing/fuel and keep them that way for the entire rpm range right?is that all into tuning?i mean i'm sure there is a shitload more but if i did that ^^^ then it would be pretty reliable to run right?Excuse my newbiness i just try to get that stuff and it finally starts to make sense now.
