    Drums issue

    I've searched and searched on this, after a few hours of struggles I got the shoes changed and I put it all back together and go to slide the drum back on and the damn thing doesn't fit back on. I found one link that had the same issue;

    http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=141607

I've compressed the cylinder and pushed as hard as I could on them damn pads and tightened star gear all the way closed and the drum does not go back where it came from.

I'm beyond frustrated right now, someone please give me a new idea to try tomorrow something I missed, anything...please.

FUCK THOES DRUMS! But maybe the shoes are not the right spec or are not seated properly on the bumps?
Also how did you get the spring and adjuster on? That is where I gave up.

Attempting to change out the shoes was enough for me to pick up rear disc trailing arms which was easier than replacing shoes.

Is the self adjuster turned all the way in.

I find that to be the number one issue when people do drum brakes.

I saw a mechanic getting all pissed off with the same issue until I showed him the self adjuster. Talk about embarrasment

If I had adjusted the ebrake cable about a month ago could that be why it's not going together?

Ya it took a couple of tries getting that spring on but I was reading your thread and someone mentioned a flathead screwdriver and that's what did it.

The shoes are Honda, I wasn't messing around they last 100k + miles so no sense cheaping out.

Yes the gear is all the way in, it was a chore getting in in because I started the wrong way.

It seems that the shoes are a tad too big, I'm not sure why they would be if they are Honda they should be the right ones.

Are these shoes used in a newer car. My thought process is Honda changed the design with thicker material. Or possibly the bottom of the shoe is not seated in the gap properly.

I double checked the number on the box with majestic Honda and they match up 43053-sm4-a00

Ive opened up the other side to look and it looks the same other than a worn ass drum.

Odd, could be a dumb question but is the E-Brake off?

Yes sir it is, It's mm away from fitting. I'm long past the point of no return lol I can't afford to have more downtime, I might just go get some cheaper shoes and see if they fit if nothing else works.

I think it is a matter of it not seated correctly, compare it to other side.

Well I ordered new drums and shoes, the shoes will just be for comparison. One of my drums was scored, the second side so I'm just replacing them.

Ordered the spring kit too so I'm really hoping it all just falls together when I get everything.

Good luck and I think I will try to replace my shoes again when I get home.

Long large flat head is better than pliers for that big spring, good luck to u too.

                          FINALLY!

I've come to the conclusion that the Honda shoes were indeed too thick by mm's on both shoes, I got some middle of the road reybestos shoes and they fit like a glove.

                          Satisfaction is mine.

Good fortune for us all! I got my shit done too! Yay!!!

Odd that they are too thick, are you sure there is not another newer vehicle with same shoe and Honda made changes in thickness to accommodate it?
