Need help removing balljoint!

Keep trying, it's a taper fit, as you prob. already know, it will not come apart until it's threshold has been reached. Try heating up the area of the knuckle around the b/j stud w/ a propane torch, that will expand the knuckle away from the stud, but don't heat the stud, just the knuckle!

Use the hammer technique to get the upper control arm to seperate from the knuckle. Once the control arm is out, pull off the boot of the ball joint, there will be a slip ring at the base of the joint that has to come off next if no it will not allow the ball to come out. Once this is done then you can press the call joint out. Install is reverse.

You can rent a press from autozone. it's basically a clamp, but it worked fine for me.

Go to autozone.com the part for the puller is 27023.

If you're having troubles getting the pickle fork in there to dislocate the balljoint, make sure you're putting the fork in right. You want the sloped side to face the ball joint, forcing it out so you don't damage the car. If you're using the cheap fork from autozone, the hammer will actually damage the handle end (because the pickle fork is softer metal than the hammer you're using). I used a small sledge hammer and it worked great.

you really need to be using with some weight, not a normal nail hammer.

Hm . Mayb the hammer I'm using is too weak. I'm going to borrow a bigger hammer and see if that works. I really needmy car back on the road.

I jus tried again and started banging the threated part of the balljoint that sticks out up and banged the top part of the knuckle. Nothing :-( . I don't know what else to do. Is there a special kind of hammer I need ?

did you get a separator fork? use that as a wedge to force them apart.

what happens is the balljoint stud gets stuck to the inside of the knuckle, you could break it loose by smacking the side of the very top of the knuckle with a sledge, itll often jar it loose.

No I don't hav that fork. I put wd 40 on it and I let it sit and started smacking it with a hammer and that didn't help either. I guess ill just keeeep trying. THIS SUCKS!

I got some spc adjustable balljoints and I can't take the old ones off the steering knuckle.

Ok today I got the tool from advance auto parts and I took off the 2 sides of the control arm off but for some reason the balljoint is still connected to the knuckle. I've poured wd-40 and let it sit and tried banging it out with a hammer and that didn't work.

I can only use the press once the control arm is out of the steering assembly with the balljoint still attached.

Anyone has a better trick to remove it?
