Leaking Gas Tank

As of now the car is on jack stands in the rear, the leak has stopped, due to the angle of the car. I`m not sure, I couldn`t really see the back end, but the side`s of the tank where the two half`s meet is splitting pretty good(rust). I believe that`s whats happening in the rear.

This happened to my old 93 EX years ago, rust had developed underneath the d/s strap causing a slight leak from the tank. I partly caused the leak b/c I had deleted the charcoal canister and capped of what was the vent line! Big mistake, the tank pressure went way above normal, causing a fracture in the line of rust. I had a brand new tank to install but ended up parting out the car.
I'm sure any CB's that are exposed to winters w/ salt or lots of rain could have rust under the straps from the inability to breath/dry out readily. Some wd-40, oil, etc will help halt the rust from getting worse + displace the water when used regularly.

I know there's a member who had a pin hole on his fuel tank. I recommended him using one of those quick fix epoxy for metal fuel tanks as I had good result in fixing leaks on aluminum tanks.
I think this member used it with good result.
Since you are planning on repairing and replacing fuel tank and components, this epoxy is not for you.
Once the tank is removed from the car, make sure the tank is free of fuel. And clean it good. I had my Civic's tank replaced with an used tank. This tank has so much scale, rust and crap, I used a leaf blower to blow all out. There was red cloud coming out of one of holes of the tank you don't believe.
If you were to repair your tank by welding, make sure there's enough meat left on the tank to perform welding. Professional welders use argon gas filling the tank to eliminate explosion.
Good luck

well that, and to know if anyone else has had this problem.?
I`m going to replace all the components due to the fact they are 20 years old.
I`m surprised the filler neck has not broke yet, it is very corroded.

I guess this is a report of what you have and what you need to do.

Leaking Gas Tank
My gas tank is leaking I believe around where the strap is, driver side towards the rear.
I haven`t been able to get under there and have a good look do to weather.
I have about a 1/4 tank and it was still dripping last I checked.
Also 1 night, I looked at it, and it appeared that ice was forming around the strap area(where I think the leak is) The gas was dripping off the ice.
Leads me to believe that condensation has built up in my tank, due too rapid climate chances where I live....and rust has formed, and now its rotting from the inside out. Or, the strap from the outside has rotted through the tank.
Replacing the tank, straps, hanger, pump, filler neck, and I`m sure some lines because I seen them patched with rubber hoses.Tags: None
