Oil leak in timing belt cover

I drove my cb7 gently for about 200 miles the other day and when I got home I popped the hood and saw that oil sprayed out everywhere from the timing belt cover but I still had a good bit if oil so I'm guessing it didn't happen until I got close to home. Anyways anyone knows what it is? I'm ordering a gasket rebuild kit and I got a new transmission in yesterday so I'm going to be busy today

Sounds like one of the cam seals, the crank seals, balance shaft seals, or oil pump drive seal let go. I don't know if H22's need the balance shaft seal retainer like the F22's do, so I'd check about that.

I'm assuming you have an H22 based on your signature.

Best way to find out for sure where it's leaking is to clean everything up real good and drive again to help find it.

    Hope this helps

You really should have started to take it apart and check what is actually leaking. Seems like a waste to buy parts you don't know that you need, but gaskets are cheap enough that it doesn't matter.

As for the amount of oil spraying and what was left in the motor; this does not mean that it just happened. It could be a small leak that sprays when the oil pressure raises.

When I had a leak on this side, it was the balance shaft seal.

Yeah I'm going to be trading soon so i figured why not update all the gaskets? I don't need the guy complaining about oil leaking or something going wrong. I also have a new crank/pistons/rods to go with it but I don't feel like doing a complete rebuild at all. so balance shaft seal, how hard do you think it'll be to replace with the motor in the car?

Yeah it's an H22 lol. I'm about to start taking some thing's off and why not do a timing belt/water pump while I'm in there.
