On my way to an appt yesterday my car did a wicked backfire and then lost a ton of power and a CEL came on. I pulled the code and its the TDC sensor. So I need a new distributor, which makes sense since this is the original from 1990 and 228k on the clock. My question is, do these TDC's gradually get bad over time? Or do they just go? I have had an issue timing this car, and have had to advance the dizzy almost all the way to get ignition timing right. Would a dying TDC sensor cause that?
