I just installed my short throw shifter tonight. It took a long while because I had to make multiple trips to wal-mart and home depot to get all the supplies. This is by far the best DIY modification you can do to your car in a total of 20 minutes. This definitely shortened my throw by at least 50% from stock throw. No more truck throws for me, more like a STi throw, lol. Take it easy!

i just did my short throw today we noticed it hit the shifter boot holder so we quit and after some more looking around we got back down to the shop and retried it. I ended up grinding part of the shift boot holder down it worked well after. i also had big hammers(dads a frame specialist) and a vise so i bent the shift linkage mounting plates ( the side piece of metal that holds the shift linkage) and bent them so they formed around the shifter it made, made it alot more secure. The shift linkage(cause the nut and adjustment is at the top) still hits the concole a lil when i push it into gear and a lil farther but o well.

awesome mod i suggest anyone to do it total cost $2.70 for the metal plates and i have enough to do about 4-5 more cars

Didn't see it mentioned, but basicly, your converting the accord shifter to the same specs as the lude shifter right? I looked at all the after pics, and it looks to be about the same as the stock 92-96 lude shifter (in my car). I was looking at it to see if I could do the same mod, but on the lude stuff there is no removable plate like that, its all molded in, but, its all under the main plate. Man, I wish I had a camera, I'd throw up a few pics. Looks to me like a DIY prelude shifter, good call everyone. Now put a nuespeed bracket on there and have some fun. hehe. L8r all

just wanted to let people know....i broke my shift linkage two days ago. i guess it might be because of all of my hard shifting. after taking the boot off i realized that there was some evidence of binding at the end of the linkage which caused there to be more force on the linkage in the y direction than before....

..the safest design is just to have force applied in the x direction with very limited y-direction force.

luckily i rethreaded the linkage which broke near the shifter while i was in the car on the side of the street with the tools i happened to have with me in the car that day.

make sure you check your DIY crap periodically because you never know what might be happening down there....[especially if it's covered with all this decorative mumbojumbo]..

DIY short shifter, plus dropped the shifter bucket under the shifter plate. Also fitted an Integra shift boot, black with red-stitching.

alright people just did my DIY short throw and bucket drop and it is sweet i just have to go back and grease everything up it started getting dark on me.
it is really stiff though is that due to the lack of grease or do i need to take some more presure off the cable?

I would guess the majority would be from the tension in the cable. You dont want to stress it too much.

                    thanks

Would be best if someone had a step by step with pics. I mean like every time you drill a hole, or place a bolt, take a pic, and would help to have a pic of the parts needed in their packaging B4 they are used.

Just saying "3' bracket" could mean anything at Home Dept or Lows.

^^^bro, sometimes the best thing you can do if you dont understand something is to just take it apart, and then youll realize in 2 seconds how simple it is.

One Stanley bracket or the like is not thick enough material to hold up to the shifting abuse. This DIY last me approximately 6 months and took a dump on me a few days ago. The bracket holding the right shifter cable snapped in half, rendering my shifter worthless while driving down the road (not good).

I am installing the Yeaman's shifter I have in a few minutes here now that I have the time to fix it. I had to rig up something quick just to drive home.

This is just a short term solution for a DIY short shifter in my opinion and not a long term. I would rather deal with a stock shifter than do this personally.

i did a diy on my own thing.....

i used the battery terminal method since i found one lying around and i must say it worked excellent. i still need to bend the bracket where the cables run through.... but i dont know how far though... this is a picture i did, not the best quality picture because its from my phone...

i am now having clearance problems with the shifter and the counsel.

at the location where i put the shifter, the throw has dramatically decreased.

just did the basket flip today, i still want the throw to be shorter haha, so i might move the basket down farther, and see if i can get the throw to be shorter, i might even just cut the neck of the shifter and weld the threads back on, i love the stock shifter, i dont like those pos screw ones
