    BODY

Glove Box Light Stays On or Glove Box Misaligned

    PROBLEM

The glove box light stays on when the glove box is closed, and/or the gap between the glove box door and the dash is not even.

    CORRECTIVE ACTION

Install the part listed under PARTS INFORMATION, and/or adjust the glove box flush with the dash.

    Glove Box Light Stays On

    1. Using a sharp utility knife, cut the tube cap (see PARTS INFORMATION) to measure 12 mm.

    2. Press the tube cap over the glove box switch plunger.

    Glove Box Misaligned

Glove Box Not Square With Dash1. Open the glovebox and grasp the top right and left corners.

    2. Push up on one side of the glove box and pull down on the other (depending on which side is high or low), to make the glove box square with the dash.

    NOTE:
After making this adjustment, it may be necessary to adjust the side-to-side clearance.

    Glove Box Uneven Side-to-side

    1. Open the glovebox and grasp the side with the least amount ot clearance.

    2. Push or pull the glovebox toward the side with the largest amount of clearance to center it.

    3. Close the glovebox and check the side-to-side clearance and squareness with the dash.

    NOTE:
There should be approximately 2 mm (0.080 in) clearance on either side of the glove box.

Top of Glove Box Uneven With Dash

    1. Open the glovebox just enough to grasp either the top or bottom edge.

    2. If the top of the glove box is too close to the dash, grasp the top of the glove box and push straight down slightly.

    3. If the top of the glove box is too far from the dash, grasp the bottom of the glove box door and pull up slightly.

    4. Close the glove box and check for a 2 mm (0.080 in) gap between the top of the glove box and the dash.

    5. If necessary repeat steps 1 through 4.

Glove Box Not Flush With Dash

    1. Check the glove box for squareness and side-to-side clearance first. Adjust if necessary.

    2. Open the glove box and check to see if the striker is centered with the latch assembly opening.

    3. If necessary, center the striker by tapping on the side of the striker with a rubber mallet. Adjust the striker until it's centered with the latch assembly.

    4. Close the glovebox and check for free play at the latch. If there is free play, open the glove box and bend the striker up or down as necessary to eliminate the free play.

    5. Close the glove box and recheck all adjustments.

On this issue, it may not always be JUST a misalignment problem. It was on my first CB7 and on my current one when I bought it but I put a new black dash in and the framework broke causing the same problem after a year or so. If this DIY fixes it, good on you. If not then you've got more serious problems.

Wow...a newb searched and found a thread. Nice.

Yeah, this is one of those problems that 95% of us have. Just like the crappy heater knobs, window clips and rear qtr rust.

Yup. Everytime someone new sits shotgun... "Hey, you're glovebox light is on."

                              "Yea, I know."
