You wanna have your sheet metal level with the surounding area for best results and what you do is tack weld it every 1" or so and keep going around till it's all welded together, but if you try to weld it like you normally would, you would warp the sheet metal and you'll get what is called "a job poorly done"....sure you don't want that on your ride.

i meant to take some pictures. Sat night i welded the tailgate shut on a mid-70's El Camino, and then welded a custom rollpan for it. pretty ass beads too, but unfortunately my work was quickly covered with MarGlass. oh well, i'll post pics somewhere when im done with it. Full restore baby!!!!

hmm u can weld anything with stick. u just have to know urproper rod size, proper heat, and technique. i've been welding stick for 4 years and i have used mig. no tig tho. welding with stick can take time on thin material. patience is key. any questions about using stick, carbon arcing, or torches i can gladly assist with. i use them on a daily basis. just send me a PM with any questions u might have.

look at a mig welder, pretty cheap and powerful...look at a Clarke 130EN, you can find them brand new at weldingdepot.com for like 300 bucks or so, or go onto ebay and you can find them 200-250 or maybe less. You can use flux core and gas with this welder and it runs on your house power(120v).
