Wish i was closer, that tear down looked to be fun, I would have loved to help out.

Sorry to hear about the head issues you are going through now (no pun intended!)
These 4 bangers are easier to tear down than you think. Infact I think the H22A head is easier to tear down than an F22A due to the spring loaded rocker assembly on the F22A. Everything is stamped with the recommended bearing size and assembly orientation. If you have a torque wrench, Helms or FSM and have done it in the junk yard or in the past it is a walk in the park. C'mon down to Texas sometime and get some rust free parts!

The good news is that the Skunk Racing cams and lifters are in near new shape with low wear, they are a keeper.

I should have the head sorted by next weekend, I'm going to the JY on Friday.

Thanks the the warm comments. I'll be happy once the motor build stage is over. I thought I was going to have it together this weekend, but I played around too much and did a whole lotta nothing.

Really the block bores are in spec, the head is the nightmare.

I am a bit worred I may have warped my new main bearings, or the bearing cap. I'm going to use a bit of heat today to see if I can get it to release nicely, but if not a peice of wood and a big hammer will do the trick. I'm trying to locate a glass table to tape high grit sandpaper to and resurface the head and true up the bearing caps if I warp them. This is where I'm also afraid I may need to have it align drilled. I'll cross check it later to see how true it is.

I'll give you a text after 5:30PM though when I leave work.

H22A4, it's the one pictured. The pictures are from before cleaning and working on it this Sunday around noon, by 10:00 PM it looked like a different motor and I started re-assembly with new seals, bearings and pistons.

You have a bucket of headaches but a lot of fun ahead with that car and I am interested to see how it progresses. Fyi I have that cluster you want, but I sold the wiring harness that was already wired up as my car would not start with it when it was still auto. Lmk if you are interested.
It was nice to meet you and Julie as well! When it comes time for the swap, we can have a min-meet in Central Texas and a bonfire, we got a bunch of wood to burn out here.

Julie also may like to meet Poco the horse. I'll be needing a cluster come swap time, just so my revs match correctly. May still be a month or two out due to motor setbacks.

I need to post more photo updates of the car and current motor pictures, it is in much better shape than pictured above.

    H22A4 woes

    FML ...

So I installed bearings to the specs stamped on the case and on the rods, plastigauge checked out. Went to rotate the crank to check clearance. It felt like poo... I then went to remove the bearing cap to find where the extra wear was and the bearing cap bridge is now froze on the dowels... I used the correct install/removal detailed in the FSM.

    Lots of swearing happened here.

Today after work I'm taking a 2x4 and a 3lb sledge hammer to it. I may need a new main bearing cap bridge after it is all said and done.

I checked the cylinders out and they are not ovaled and are in OEM spec, and I'm about to do a light hone on the FRM liners (I know, blah blah blah, sleeve not hone, blah blah blah). But I need to remove the crank again first.

Pretty sure I need to get it align drilled as well...

I discovered Skunk Racing cams, but found a mix of stock and flat faced valves in the head so to that. I also found that the surface of the head had been machined prior and it was not up to factory spec and possibly caused the initial death of the motor (blown head gasket).

So I tinkered with the ODB1 TB I got with the motor, it was corroded beyond my immediate attention so I may be sourcing one of these too.

Things I'm needing still are (I'll add to this list as I get time, it is really much longer!):
    flex plate
    full set of matching valves
    OBD1 Alt
    P/S bracket
    Hadsys A/C bracket
Prelude f22/h22 P/S pump and hydraulic line
H23 manual tensioner (may use a new in box H22A4 auto tensioner for now)
    crank pulley
    misc bolts...

Overall the motor I aquired was rebuilt poorly, now I'm considering even using the block or using it as a core while it is stripped or even sending it off to be sleeved. I have 5 months to get it all together, so I'm taking my time and trying to do it right.

Good news is that I aquired a MP1A transmission from Jarrett. I primed it and wired it to my arduino TCU and simulated shifts while turning the torque converter at lockup and it is PERFECT. to you Jarrett!

Back to the junkyard on Friday... Hope I can find more Prelude parts! I'm also thinking about the block long and hard.

Lots of start and stopping to cuss and then forge on.

Thanks Mike! Unfortunately most of the work I have done lately is not noticeable, but the car drives like a dream.

I'm about to move on to motor/transmission swap and body work. I mounted and then removed the flush mount spoiler, and have also been on the fence with the front lip, the Acura lip is a bit short so I'm considering extending it or finding another lip. I couldn't post up more photos yet, my tablet died, but I'll be updating my signature soon and posting more photos when I get home. I lost my phone and all it's photos over the weekend.

Also my muffler has succumbed to dry rot and is about to start making noise I don't want (it's quiet now, but not after winter hits and does more damage). I'm considering buying a new OBX Racing Sports dual DTM tip exhaust muffler or a full ExMag RS*R catback, Apexi WS2 is a bit spendy for my pocket book at the moment.

Found a few more sub-par photos to share:

    Wheel offset with Kazera-P rims

Car getting 4 wheel alignment done. Had to remove front skirt to get onto the machine. My undercarriage still dragged so we had to walk it up on blocks.
