    nikon d60???

    or

i been talking to some dude locally that's got one and he's willing to work out a deal with me. it's like brand new he said, but he wants something more simple for his wife and for his ebay selling. it's got 2 lens 18-55mm vr lens and 55-200mm with a case, and 4gb sd card. i've got a sony 60gb hard drive camcorder he said he might trade for + cash on my side..

what are these really worth? it's used but he said he's only used it like 5 times. has box and everything. are they a good camera? maybe someones got one on here and can give me some feedback

    How much?

It's really a d40 with more megapixels, I believe. Pretty much the same thing as the d40x. I wouldn't pay over 300 for that combo, with 250 being more ideal. But everyone seems to overprice their low end bodies because they cost so much to begin with. Plus everyone still wants them, so I see them going for around 400. It's a great beginners camera, and you'd likely be set for a long time to learn with that gear, d40/60 can take great pictures with the right person behind the camera.

i see. he wanted like $600 but he said he could take my camcorder and cash...like $300 cash with camcorder, although i only paid $100 for the camcorder

but still $300 cash on top

yeah he said he paid like $1100 from best buy.

Yeah... that's the problem, he pays 1100 from best buy when today you could get a d90 kit on amazon for 1050 right now brand new. (just looked)

Or check this out: 550 for a NEW d60 with kit lens. granted no 55-200 but if that's the non-VR then that lens is about 100 on CL. http://www.amazon.com/Nikon-Digital-.../dp/B000KJQ1DG

See why I think everyone overprices them and they should be worth less?

yeah the megapixel increase a big difference from the d40 to the d60?

he said he bought it like 7 months ago, i mean i see his point but no one will ever sell one for cheap though

You will very rarely ever see the need for more than 8 megapixels unless you are using this hobby as a job. I have seen guys print billboards from 20ds just fine. I would not pay the extra $300 or whatever for more megapixels. Just pick up a super cheap d40 and once you get used to it, work your way up.

Good luck with getting a new dslr for $300. Why buy new? Youre just going to drop it, or swing it over your shoulder into a wall. Buy a used one and get insurance.

I've never done either of those things.

If you'er tight on cash I recommend a used body and glass. If you're not to tight on cash you wouldn't be worried about this so never mind, haha.

Keep hunting and don't pay over 300 for a d40 kit.

well i can get $300 no problem. i know i wanna get a used one first and then maybe in the future get a NICER Dslr.......

i just wanna know if it's a good starter camera and all that. cuz i DO want to get a dslr but i wanted a d40 originally but if i can get a d60 for less than a d40 and if ya think it's a nice camera i might just go ahead and get it. i mean it comes with 2 lens and all that.

Yeah, it's a good beginner camera. Perfect really. d60 is pretty much a d40 + some megapixels I believe. I can't imagine there are any other noteworthy diferences.

600 is just quite a lot of money for one... as you can see a brand new one is a lot less. You also have to remember these are old models, the d3000 is out now so it really blows my mind these are so expensive.

yeah wish i could afford that one or the d90...

but technically i'm only paying $400, i mean the camcorder i never use plus it's like old technology now. so idk if it's worth $400 for me. it's got the other 55-200mm vr nikon lens or w/e which he said he paid like $200 more for it...

55-200 VR sells for like 175ish used. Maybe a little less, maybe a bit more. I have one... it gets the job done but it's not highly desirable. But it's a perfect companion to the kit lens on the d40/60.

So I guess 400 out of pocket isn't a bad deal if it really is in good shape.

yeah $400 is what i'm thinking ain't that bad plus i been craving a dslr for months now!!

and yeah i heard those lens are decent. and it helps to have the vibration reduction because u don't always need a tripod to use them i heard but it's good to use one still.

i'm still deciding. he said it's in MINT shape and can all pass for "new" condition if he puts it in the box and tapes it up...

I have basically the exact same setup myself (D40, 18-55mm, and 55-200mm VR) and am very pleased with it. It's a great, cheap setup for a beginning photographer and it will take you a while to out grow that setup.

Add a fast prime, such as the 35mm 1.8G, and a more powerful flash, such as the SB-400 or SB-600, and you have a full kit that will serve you well while you learn how to shoot. If you catch the bug, then will have had time to save up money you can put towards more professional gear.
