The armrest is secured by a few metal clips on the underside, just below your red circles, and probably some phillips screws. That has to be removed first before the insert can come off. It is possible that the insert is also glued in place, but not sure. But, that is the exact door panel with leather inserts I was referring to. This would be the best way to customize your door panels, but possibly more difficult to source.
Ahhhh, ok .. yeah .. that makes sense .. and I bet it is lightly glued .. grrr ..
Whuddya mean by, "more difficult to source" ?

And yeah, that sucks that those panels were brought up right after you cut yours .. lolz ..
I hate when that happens ..

well, i've never sourced these parts for myself, so I don't know how easy it is to buy them... Doubt that they're all that rare, just not sure how many people are pulling them out of cars and selling them.

Ahhhh, gotchya .. yeah ... I'm still gonna play around with the idea of re-doing these myself.
That accord I got my whole door from in the JY is still there .. I might just grab the other panel ..
and use both to atleast have panels on the fronts while I play with mine ..

And I coulda sworn that I saw one with tan leather .. but all the panels were pretty fucked ..
I'd like to grab one of those as well .. fugged up or not .. just to see how it comes apart
and the feasilbility of the many options available ..

Thanks Wherm .. always a pleasure to see what you're up to next .. and like I say,
I'll be keepin an eye on this thread ..

Hopefully the upholstery process will be starting soon! Especially cause the car's coming out of storage in a few months!

In the mean time my friend will be upholstering the arm rests in black Alcantara suede, and working on upholstering my rear trim panels and bb6 dash that I custom fit to my cb7. See my BB6 dash swap thread.

That's some really good work they look bad ass. So I'm looking into doing this but with the se panels since that's what I have. What do you recomend on using what glue did you use what kind of material. Can you make like an item list, for Any of us are brave enough to tackle a project like this and how did you do the speaker panels I would like to see some closer pics. Thanks and once again great job

It's my friend that's wrapping the door panels for me, but I did all the custom work to the door panel prior to it being wrapped.

Anyway, to start out you'll need:

                                Fiberglass resin
                                Chop mat
                                Masking tape
                                Car wax

Start by masking the backside of the door panel with the tape. Mask 3" or so on either side of the ridge. Once it's all masked off, apply a coat of wax to the tape. This helps you release the fiberglass mat from the tape when it's cured. Soak small squares of chop mat with resin and dab it into place on the masking tape being sure to eliminate any air pockets. Do this all the way around, two layers at least.

When it's cured, carefully remove the fiberglass ring. It's not easy, but the wax helps and you just have to be careful not to crack it. Then using an air saw, cut out the center insert along the deepest part of the crease.

When the insert is removed, sand the edges smooth and as straight as possible. Apply resin to the back of the door panel where the backing ring goes, and gently clamp the ring to the door panel, spreading the resin around and over the ring.

When that's cured, neatly trim the inside edge of the backing ring.

At this point you can wrap the insert with your material, and wrap the door panel with your material. Then using a method of your choice, attach/glue the insert to the backing ring. Re-install the arm rest and reinstall the door panel to your door.

DAP Weldwood Contact Adhesive is what my friend uses to apply his upholstery. It comes in a 5 gal. can and needs to be sprayed from a siphon fed spray gun and air compressor.

Other than that, the vinyl needs to be thoroughly cleaned with alcohol, and I recommend using an aerosol vinyl prep before applying the glue to the vinyl. If it's not perfectly clean, it won't stick.

As for my door panels, you can see more detailed pics in my BB6 Dash Swap thread.
