BB6 Dash swap

I decided it wasn't enought to just swap the BB6 Cluster into my CB7 Coupe. So, I am going to swap in the entire dash along with it! I got a pretty good start on it today. To do this, I cut out the outer perimeter of my CB7 dash, which will be mated to the inner portion of the BB6 Dash. The reason I'm doing this is to keep the four factory mounting points on the sides, and retain use of my defroster vents. I'm not running A/C anymore and I don't drive the car in the winter, so I don't really need to make the rest of the BB6 dash vents operable, but I might. We'll see how it plays out. Anyway, here's where I'm at so far, fitment is pretty close, just need to mold the two pieces together.

I have a BB6 prelude that I'm using all the parts from so it makes it a little easier to do this. I am also going to try to integrate the center console into the design. To do this I'll have to use the BB6 E-brake assembly. Shouldn't be too bad since the metal part that holds the ebrake lever and shifter assembly above the exhaust tunnel is just spot welded on. I'll probably drill out those spot welds, drill out the welds on my mounting plate, and weld the BB6 part in place. I'm also hoping that it will raise my shifter a little for autocross purposes.

I'll take pics whenever I get the chance and keep you updated!

nice i have been waiting for a dash swap to be done. cant wait to see some more pics and progress on this. if the exterior on your car is any sign of the work you do this should come out great. i personally like the bb4 lude dash with that "space ship" look i might have to look into swapping that over. and that one has speakers built in too.

good luck

No, it wouldn't, except that I used the end caps of the CB7 dash to accomplish a smooth transition!!

Yes. Let me know what you need. It is a complete car. I'm keeping the H22a4 as a back up engine, or for a future build. I'm also keeping the tranny. At this point the only other parts I'm keeping so far are dash components for this swap and maybe the carpet...not sure if it'll swap into my car nicely or not. I bought new cb7 carpet from TAS Auto and it fits like crap. It'll take a lot of work to make it look nice, but could be done. If the lude carpet fits it might just use that...

Never been a huge fan of digital clusters, plus you gotta remember that I'm getting all these parts from my BB6 parts car.

Update!!!!!!

Here are the pics from today.

Today I extended the wires on the cluster pigtails to neaten up the dash harness. Also, I started fabbing up the ends of the dash. What I've basically don is created a form on the front side of the dash. What this does for me is holds the two pieces of the dash together so that I can remove and install the dash for fitment purposes. Since I'm molding the perimeter of the CB7 dash to the inner portion of the BB6 dash, I have to fill in the gaps between the two pieces. You'll see what I mean when you look at the picture of the top of the dash. You can see the gap between the two pieces right behind the defroster vents. The fiberglass matt that I laid on the corners of the dash will be removed, but only after I've filled in the gaps from the backside with structural foam, and reinforced it from the back side. Next week I'll do the same across the top of the dash. After I've filled in the seam from the backside and reinforced it, I'll pop the fiberglass molds off the outside, grind a shallow groove along the top of the seam, and reinforce it with plastic repair adhesive and mesh tape. At this point it'll be as strong as if it was made that way from the factory. To smooth it off, I'll use a thin layer of duraglass. After that, my friend will re-upholster it with black Alcantara suede to match my Recaro seats.

Here are the pics!
