ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

battery not charging, alternator, starter, and battery are new.

Okay, so I have a problem where my battery will not charge at all, new alternator, tested and passed, I did a wire tuck and I did it right, cut wires one by one, resolder and sealed it all up, I turn my car on, and it shows battery voltage at 12.4, checked it at fusebox and starter, 12.4, I tested the voltage of the black and yellow wire and it was at about 12.1, and at the alternator plug it is at 11.9, when the car is at idle, the voltage slowly drops, and drops more after I out a load on the alternator with lights, radio, ect, I just can't figure out what's wrong, please help!

Sounds like it could be a short somewhere.

Wire tucks make it difficult to track down shorts.

    If it is a short.

I would start with your cleaning your terminals for good contact.

Does your battery light stay on after the car is started?

I'm leaning towards a bad solder somewhere or you overheated some wires and blew some fuses.

Those are all worth checking out.

    Good luck

Did you check the alternator fuse? (red box)

I don't have my service manual handy, there should also be a fuse in the box under the dash.

Now that I think about it, is your belt tension right? With the engine running you should be reading about 13.5 to 14 volts off the big white wire on the alternator and battery terminal. If your belt is too lose it won't turn the alternator fast enough to generate a charge

checking all the grounds is always a good place to start

Yep. Alternator voltage should be around 14. Sounds like a loose belt on the ALT which doesn't charge the battery.

sorry guys i couldnt really worok on my car with all this snow, but, yes, my main fuse (80 amp) is good, upgraded all grounds to 2g wire, would you happen to know if there is another fuse under the dash that the alternator needs? i was thinking that maybe i could disconnect the original output wire on the alternator and run a new one with an inline fuse straight to the batery, could that work? i just need it running fr now untill i can find the actual problem itself

Download the FSM. Check for the voltage sense wire on the alternator. The alternator isn't putting anything out because something isn't telling it to do so. Check to see if the wires on that plug of the alternator is in specs with the FSM.

Report back, you will find the issue.
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

well i seemed to have gotten the problem fixed, there was actually a tiny cut in the alternator outputwire, but as of now, starts every time and runs at 13.8 - 14.5 volts. thanks guys!
