    In-Dash DVD/CD players

I'm in the market for one. I want to grab one before the long trip to NYMM, so I thought I'd seek some advice from you guys.

I want an in-dash system, not one of those stupid flip out screen deals. I hate those.

I have seen a few people on here with the in-dash units and I am curious on what exactly is needed to install it. Do you have to eliminate the ash tray, cig lighter, and maybe even the cupholders in order to make it fit? Also, what unit would you reccommend?

    Thanks in advance.

No. Its a double din unit. It fits in the stock location with minimal mods. I like eclipse so that's what I'm going to recommend.

Cigarette lighter, ashtray, and cupholders all fit. Depending on where the knobs on the stereo are though you might not be able to fit a very big cup in there. As for what unit, Eclipse makes really good units, so does Pioneer. Alpines seem more overpriced for their features. But chances are that you're gonna lose a bit of sound quality when you switch to a CD/DVD player (unless you're still OEM)

I actually don't even use the shitty CB cupholders. Lol.

If it all fits in there nicely without a ton of modification, that's great.

Now, what do you mean by this???...

Eclipse has dropped out of the car audio game. Their net sellable stock is still on the market till it's gone. Supposedly they are going to offer support on their products for the next three years or something, but after that, no more. I had my eyes on one of their double din dvd/nav systems but was told by my friends who own a shop that there are bugs in their units. For now, there are downloadable updates to fix these issues, but if you're looking for something long term I'd recommend someone else like Alpine or Pioneer.

Personally I'm probably gonna go with the Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT. It comes highly recommend by friends of mine that have been in the industry for many years.

Installing a double-din should be pretty straightforward, you can get double din mounting kits that can help.

Generally, DVD units have somewhat lower sound quality than just CD units. As in a lot of CD units have things like 24-bit Digital/Analog conversion or high-voltage outputs, while DVD units have 1-bit Digital/Analog conversion and lower voltage RCA outputs. That's why I'm running a single DIN eclipse head unit with a separate flip-out screen for the ability to also watch DVDs
