I had a AWD Talon for a while........fun cars, never had any problems with it.

But, with any 'built' car, you're adding extra stress onto a motor that might not have been designed for it, so you might experience more problems than usual.

Gears on the AWD's are pretty close, which sucks for highway driving.

if your getting a lot of settlement money, why are you buying a talon?

Because lawyer's fees, other expenses, taxes, and a structured settlement (which is likely to be what it is) won't be plopping a buttload of cash in his hands.

I personally wouldn't want someone else's project... especially a DSM. Sure, it's built, and probably a good build... but it's a DSM. They're ALL beat to hell, because that's how people drive them. The 4G63 is a good motor, the rest of the car doesn't handle the beating quite as well. You blew a stock-ish BMW... the DSM probably won't last the way you drive for very long. That is, if it doesn't kill you first!

Make the CB7 fast. Get something cushy to impress the ladies... and go slow. Like an NA Volvo.

            I'd pass. It's a DSM.

"It's a DSM" is a lousy reason. It's an old AWD turbo car that people have beaten on is a much more valid excuse.

People rag on DSMs, but how many AWD turbo cars from 1990 do you see on the road today? Those things are nearly 20 years old, and still going... and they're driven HARD. Not the greatest cars in the world, sure... but they're not nearly as crappy as people say.

A DSM is a project car now. They're all run ragged, or heavily modified (as this one seems to be... I forget my HMT login, and I don't feel like figuring it out... can't see it otherwise)

I wouldn't get one, but they're not bad cars.

id buy an impala SS and swap a LS1 into it.

but then again you may drift it into a curb and a impala SS is a very nice car. so nm

Yeah, but it makes you look a lot less like a bandwagoning hater with nothing to back up his statement

We hate the Mustang guys that say "ew, you drive a Honda?" but we'll bash on DSMs for similar reasons.

I actually love DSM's. My sister still has her 93 Eclipse GSX-T. She bought it new, and has babied the crap out of it. Has a little over 100K on it.

But, the other ones I see look and sound terrible. 80% of them have been abused. The other 20% are garage whores.

Yeah, it's the owners that make the difference. Sure, it's not a Porsche... but it's not meant to be. When they're maintained well, they last. When they're properly modified, they last. When they're pounded on relentlessly... they break. It's turbo, it's AWD... they can put down a lot more power, and a lot more strain on mechanical parts, than our cars (at least until we go the turbo route, and then we're right there with them).

I'd take a Galant VR4 any day. I wouldn't want a Talon/Eclipse/Laser, simply because they're too common. As you said, garage queen or ridden hard and put away wet for the past 18 years... I don't want either! The Galants are pretty much the same thing mechanically, but generally treated with more respect... by the owners AND the competition.

Dave, if you want AWD turbo Mitsubishi, import a JDM Evo 3! It's the same chassis as our Mirage, so it wouldn't be that hard to get here...
