    Insurance suggestions?

Alright so my girl has an '02 mustang GT convertible. car is in great condition with low mileage. she has full comp & collision insurance out on it.

so a week or so ago we were out somewhere and got back to the car to find beer spilled on it, and a 1 foot long slit across the vinyl top, with a cigarette burn next to it. filed a police report early the next morning.

her insurance agent was helpful and very supportive. took pictures of it and helped file a claim, and set her up with a rental car. which was important, because the car is hardly drivable - any wind makes it tear and stretch, and any rain (which weve had a lot of recently) comes right in.

she works at the ford dealership that would be replacing it, so the full quote for the new vinyl plus installation was somewhere around $1900. because shes getting an employee discount on the vinyl top and shes friends with the service guys, they agreed to tack on $500 into the final price which would be used to pay the deductable, making this cost her nothing. i dont see a problem with this, considering overall, the total cost would still be LESS than what the quote would have been for any joe shmoe who walked in with the same predicament.

so she finally hears back, and the insurance company decided that her car is too old (6 years!?) and that they will only give her $580 to pay for her to have the slit SEWN SHUT.

this is obviously completely unacceptable, and it leaves her in a pretty shitty situation-

what do you guys recommend? what points should she bring up to try to fight this with her insurance company?

it was my understanding that with full comp & collision, if shes willing to pay the $500 deductable that they should be doing this for her NO PROBLEM??

    just really looking for suggestions.

Hell my CB is $92 a month and a $500 deductible, this is just liability and no uninsured motorists or property damage included.. I'm with Progressive but I want to switch services

Mike that sounds a bit fishy. I know a lot of insurance companies have a lifetime guanrantee on repairs so how does this figure in? Is sewing a roof a certifiable repair. I guess I got more questions than answers. *you answered this one*

          Thanks,

Will they just cut her a check and tell her to have the repair shop bill them if it doesn't cover the cost? That's what they told me when my taurus got wrecked. Have her dealer go back to progressive and say that it damaged beyond repair and needs to be replaced at the same time she's calling GEICO, AIG, All State or State Farm cuz she might get dropped after have to pay out the additional $

well definitley bitch and fight til' they repair it???? that's unacceptable.
When i had to get my car fixed for a hit and run in my HS parking lot, there was easily $1000+ in damages from my quarter panel and driver door getting bashed in.

They fixed my car and gave me a rental for 2 weeks....w/o any questions asked. And this happened in April 2005, so that woulda made my car 12 yrs old then. I got to choose the bodyshop and all I had to pay for that damage was 250 for the deductible through Allstate.

Read the fine print. See what they consider the repairs to be.

Sewing the roof shut is like pulling a dent out with a "dent doctor" and calling it fixed. It is NOT returning the car to or near the pre-incident condition. She's paying for the full coverage for events just like this one. I would ask them how much newer the car should be to be fully repaired... For example, if they say "3 years old", say "ok, I would like a refund for the difference between full coverage and liability insurance for the past 3 years, since I wouldn't have gotten the coverage I had been paying for!"
It won't work, but it might let them know that they're dealing with someone that won't take it sitting down!

Imagine how it would be if health insurance did that... "Sorry sir... you're 60 years old. That's too old for us to properly fix your broken wrist. However, we will provide you with this lovely hook."
