So this injury occurred on 8/2/08. I was helping a buddy work on his car. We had it up on the lift and needed to bring it down so he cud grab his keys from it. On the side of the lift is a lock release lever that we pull back and hold. We have done this multiple times and i didn't think anything of it this time either. Well, it just so happened when i pulled back, it didnt release and the weight of the car pulled that lever back in and my left hand index finger was still in the middle and got crushed in between the lever and side of the lift. I will let the pix speak for themselves:











this is post surgery to fix the bone. The pin stays in for 4 weeks. My job is anticipating me being out for 2-3 months.

Damn that sucks man. Reminds me of when my dad broke his ring finger. He was playing with our pitbull with a rope pulltoy swinging her and his hand slipped and his finger got caught in it and snapped it in half. He pushed it back together and then went to the ER....didn't hurt him until a few hours after he got out of the ER. They put a couple screws in his finger and now it doesn't bend on the very last knuckle near his fingernail. Brutal.

I think that pin is in there as a splint since he fractured the very tip of his finger.

What kind of condition is that lift in? I've never heard of that happening before.

thanks for all the well wishes guys. Yea as far as the pain i didnt feel anything when it first happened. I was just yelling at my boy to take me to the hospital and he was asking me if i wanted an ambulance. I was like yes, about 30 seconds had passed and thats when all the pain hit. When i first saw it, the first knuckle to the tip had separated from the hand just being held on by a few muscles and i could see the bone. Oh and also having a pin in your finger is the worst pain you can imagine multiplied by 10, once the local anesthetic wears off.

the pin is holding the bone in place so it can heal properly and straight. The lift is in good condition, its just that, the cable that connects the lock levers together is cut off. We have used it like that so many times tho. Thats why we didn't think anything of it.
