Well, i'm a pretty big science and technology nerd, so today is pretty exciting for me, and will go down in history, whether you realize it not.
Today The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) successfully sent its first photon beams around the 17 mile particle accelerator at CERN, in what could end up being the biggest and most important science experiment ever done by mankind.
The main goal of the LHC is to provide insight into particle physics, such as finding the elusive "Higg's Boson", and create mini "big bangs" to help study what conditions might have been like at the bang, and very shortly after it.
Some people were led to believe that CERN could destroy the world by creating a "black hole". This started as a joke by physicists, and when the media caught wind of it, it was blown way out of proportion. the LHC CANNOT create enough energy to create anything more than a nanoscopic black hole, that would last for only a billionth of a second, posing ZERO danger to the earth.
