I can appreciate graffiti when it's actually art... like many of the pieces shown in this thread. I can't stand straight tagging, though. I see no point in scribbling some obscure name that you've decided to call yourself just to show you were there.
When it's art, it's worth looking at. It may still be vandalism, but done right, a properly done piece can actually improve an area that's in shabby condition. Plus, the more elaborate a piece, the more risk is involved... and the more impressive it is!
A tagger is nothing but a vandal. A graffiti artist is an artist. The more respectful artists will only write on things that are already dilapidated.
Writers aren't writing on things to just show they've been there. They do it to get their name out there. In general every known graffiti writer has done this and it's fine that you or anyone else can't see the purpose to graffiti.
Writers do it for other writers, and nobody else. I'm pretty sure if the city wasn't so hard on writers that they would spend more time on their pieces instead of seeing what you might around your town. A writer is a writer -- they need to be versatile and not only sit around and hit their school walls all day. It's all about the trains and the spots that get exposure. When people go around hitting little shit then I can see the anger in it -- but there really is no liking one without the other, the graff that a lot of people "appreciate" came from bombing, which is what everyone hates.
yep. Even the famous writers all started out bombing, for example COPE2,SEEN,DUST . either just catching some quick tags in the streets or doing crazy wildstyles on trains.
i just got back from NY and i didnt get a chance to go to 5 points , even though i stayd about 10 minutes from there. i did manage to see it while on the 7 train.
all my friends in ny quit graff because they each got caught 3 times. the next time theyd be caught they would have to be in jail for 7 months minimum. the night before i came back to florida, me and my friends got stoppd and they caught my friend, EO, with 3 markers. luckily since he had a PBA card they let him go. lucky fuck lol
here are 2 of my favorite videos..
STYLE WARS- All graffiti writers have seen this video. this is a documentary on graffiti in the 80's. Most legends are on this video.
BOMB THE SYSTEM - this is a movie starring "designated dave" from Drive Me Crazy lol. This is a story about a graffiti writer named BLEST in NYC. it has a pretty good story line, check it out
Yea I know it was under construction in the beginning of 2008. I'm not sure if it still is. You could always check it out and if it is still under construction, jump on the 7 train to Long Island City and check out 5 Pointz.
Depending where you are coming fron it can be either headed towards manhattan or main street flushing in queens. 5POINTZ is between the stops HUNTERS POINT AVE. and 45 RD COURT HOUSE SQ on the 7 train.
yea i was big in palm beach county. my graff crew was called KKK (Killing Krylon Kans) and i painted that evrywhere on some street. the next day some news channel was sayin that "graffiti writers are now joining racial gangs and the KKK is back" and they showed pics of all my pieces lmao
those are just some quick throw ups. i have done pieces but never took any pictures. i painted late at night and the less i carry with me the better. plus i had no camera
i got a lot better since then, even painted my room but i feel 2 old for bombing (doing graffiti in the streets) right now. im 18 so getting arrested for painting isnt worth it anymore lol
I dunno man, your story doesn't sound legit to me.
lol shut up. wen ive gone bombing i neva did ne pieces like urs. ur shit is nice. i mainly did outlines and fill-ins. ill c if i cn find my blak book n ill show it to ya.
i only have piks of tags i cought in ny since id do those in the day and i used my camera fone. id bomb here in florida but late so i never took ne piks. i only did fill ins in florida. i did 2 fill ins with a force field on I-95 going south right before the 10th avenue exit.one on the wall (where cars go) and one under the bridge (where the trains run thru) i was tite because 2 days later it got painted over
found an old throwie of mine in some kids picture on myspace lolz
somewhat more recent
gettin' up in community college ha
and from a few minutes ago hahah
the 2 of the last 3 were just in my yard. i live in a smaller town and it's hard to get up without being hassled by the cops so i try to only go out every few months. i've got tons of shit around town that i don't have flicks of.
