Mitsubishi's are less reliable than subaru, honda, toyota, and nissan. Via consumer reports long term studies.

Really depends on the owner, just as every other car does. I could give a gsx to a older guy and a 2000 civic si to a kid thats gonnna street race it every weekend and the eclipse will last longer. Its all about how you treat your car and how good you take care of it. Ive owned 2 4g63t's, 2 4g63nt's, and 1 420a and all were great with no problems at all, but i never beat on them and always took care of maitanence before performance.

My brother's 95 eclipse GS with the 97-99 facelift is still running after 3 different auto trannies The entire motor, suspension/frontend, exterior and interior have been refreshed by my stepdad and is awaiting paint for it to be complete. My lil sis is gonna have one hell of a car as her 1st car, i can tell you that

Right now they working on the GS-t they just bought to flip so that its completely road worthy before they flip it.

All and all, eclipse are cool, its just the fact that if shot break just like on our cbs its gonna be WAY more harder to replace/repair due to the complexity of the engine bay.

Much of the engineering in Mitsubishi isn't quite up to par with Honda and Toyota, but it's not a black and white situation. They're still very good cars.

Any properly maintained car can remain reliable. The most reliable cars, such as Hondas and Toyotas, often get that reputation because they can handle abuse better. My CB7 was heavily abused before I got it, I can tell... and it hasn't been babied by me, either. It can take considerable abuse. My GM products... couldn't. However, my Grand Prix would've lasted for a long time if my job wasn't such a strain on it.

I totally agree with you, i abused and beat my cb7 alot more than i ever have any of my dsm's and nothing ever broke on the accord. I will agree hondas are built very well and are very reliable. Maybe i had so many good experiences with my dsm's was because i never drove them hard unless i was with a group of friends on a joy ride or something lol. I bet if i beat on my dsm like i did my cb7 my dsm experience would have been alot differernt lmao. All in all they are fun cars even the non turbo models give you enough power to keep you happy if its a daily driver, just keep your maitanence up and everything should be okay. Watch out for the headgaskets on the 420a engines, they go bad very quick. I dd a 1st gen now. I miss my old 2nd gen.

That's cause the accord is built to better standards...as is showed in those tests.

Dependent on the driver? Not true. CS treats all their cars the same, mitsu's didn't last as long.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not saying they're trash, just not as reliable.
