    FWD + wing = function?

So I'm watching a show about the Z06 corvette. This guy said that the purpose of the wing also helped keep the back end down during braking. If that's legit then all of these wings on FWD cars have more function that I thought. What do you think?

Yeah thats what i've thought the whole time.

But 80% of the cars you see like that never go fast enough to utilize downforce.

The ruling on the play (Ricers) stands.

"Speed has never killed anyone. Suddenly becoming stationary... that's what gets you." Jeremy Clarkson

You're not JDM until you have a car built in ohio with tons of bolt ons from ebay.

I swear to god I saw a wing on a viper that was so huge that the top was at least 6 feet from the ground! It had a really huge cowl hood and ugly ass wire wheels. My jaw dragged the ground while I passed him on my moped in amazment as to why he needed a wing that damn big!

If anything it might help with corning but on your typical "normal" street car that has NO mods and is stock as hell?

Nothing. The only function it would serve as is a wallet lightener.

For one you're comparing a z06 to the cb7...the two are so dissimilar it's like comparing toilet paper to tires.

the wing...is for braking? as in going slow?

Maybe he meant for cornering. The wing will push the rear down...not good for a fwd.

The ONLY time a rear wing may server a purpose on a fwd is if the front ALSO has something applying down force...and the wing balances it out.

            Got more info though?

The audi TT is shaped like an airplane wing. Above speeds of 80 or so they started getting real squirrelly.

What I'm talking about is the wing keeping the back down when the front pitches down from braking.

WEll downforce is downforce. At the right speed if it pushes the car down then it adds traction. Even if it's FWD all 4 tires still need grip.

                  ^^^
It's also downforce without the cost of weight at low/mid speed acceleration.

But as people have said above me, the speeds needed to actually realize effective downforce are most likely above the safe range of operation for our cbs.

Esp if we're talking about aftermarket wings that have no real design to them. I'm sure Audi (and others) can design more effective low speed wings for their various needs.

Edit: and if we're talking about keeping the tail down during braking, the speeds are most likely going to be low.
