So the other day I did a tune up for my plugs, wires etc. So he takes his car to a shop to have his brakes checked out and serviced,so we left while they were doing the brakes and we went to go pick it up they told him that he needed an oil change and plugs,he laughed at the guy and "said you're joking that was done just yesterday" the guy said who ever did it for you ripped you off and put bad plugs and oil in the car,I said to the guy you're lying because he bought all of the parts and brought his car to me so I could do his tune up, and I said if anything on his car other than his brakes has been change without his knowledge he will not pay for the charges and to show us the spark plugs, he said hold on and went to show us the spark plugs and brought out some bosch plugs, I told the guy that I used NGK plugs and that this place is full of crap. So I made sure that they didn't do a switch to his car and checked everything in front of them, the plugs were sitll there as well as checking the oil level and oil filter nothing was touched and the oil was still fresh. The guy apologized said that they he will discount the brake service.

kinda like what happen to a friend, fellow cb7tuner actually. he had an oil pan gasket changed bc no room at college to do it himself. comes to get his car, and they charged him for a new oil cap and told him it was totally gone. then later at a meet, he finds his original oil cap behind the intake manifold.
same Honda dealership tried to charge me $300 a side to change out my seat belts eventho there's a lifetime warranty

Because 90% of the rest of vehicle owners would see that as an "extra" service and think that shop had the greatest customer service. And since they can get away with that with the ignorant customer, they try to do it to everyone.Originally posted by MDJ-7BC View PostWhy were they even looking at the plugs if they were servicing the brakes? Thats a big red flag right there!

exactly. go in with pains all for the them to tell you its something you thought it was in the 1st place and give you some $200 meds that are basicly the same as the $5 meds.Originally posted by Shag Wagon View PostMechanics and doctors are all the same. Its a huge ripoff!

Its because when your a mechanic "some" feel the need to rob people because of their knowledge of cars, and "sometimes" rob people for easy work.
When your a doctor "some" feel like its their priveledge to rob people for a simple operation because they went to school for 8 years and spent 200k for medical school.
"Some" are just people trying to make the best of the skills and knowledge they have!
Just keep a sharp eye everyone and always research everything online before you go out to do something...

i don't feel privelaged or obligated to rob anyone. i sell the customer what they need. i bring the customer to my bay and show them. as do many other mechanics on here.
