    Anybody here golf?

Im a pretty avid golfer.....Ive been golfing since I was like 11-12 and a few years ago I got REALLY good clubs (cost 2500 for irons, woods and driver)....so Ive spent alot of time on courses the last few years.....I usually shoot around mid-high eighties.....sometimes better....sometimes worse

I know there has to be some other golfers on here.

pssst... i do, but dont tell anybody. I might ruin my reputation lol. Actually yeah it's pretty fun to go out and hit some balls. I think its boring as hell to watch it, but my older brother got me into it. All my clubs are hand-me-downs from him but they are really nice. He always gets the latest greatest equipment. His wife's sister owns a really nice golf course down in South Georgia. Thats about the only real golf course i've been on. Everything around here is small par 3 courses. and there's only 9 holes, so 10-18 are played on 1-9 just with different tee locations.

Yeah I golf, been doing it since I was 11. My handicap is about 16-18 on a par 72 course. Im debating on what brand I will spend the money on to get custom fitted for some clubs. I play with a set I got for $200 from a sporting goods store. They are okay but brand name makes a huge difference. I played with some TaylorMade woods and I really liked those. I also played with Nike Irons and liked those too so I don't know. Im gonna go to the pro shop and mess around with some burner irons to see how they pan out.

I just tried out the R9 and I love it. I haven't messed with any titleist irons yet. I'll give them a shot too. Not trying to pay too much. Im thinking about the $400-$600 range.

I play a lot of golf - at my best I was 3.6 index, which, depending on the course was about 2-4 handicap.

There is NO reason in the world to spend a bunch of money on off-the-rack brand name clubs. You're not going to get better clubs just because they have someone's name on them. You're WAY better off getting custom-fitted by someone who knows what they're doing. You'll pay the same for the custom-fitted clubs as anything you can buy in a store, but you'll hit them much better.

Also, if you can't afford custom-fitting, buy used, and a couple of years old. I still play to a 5.9 index, and haven't bought a new club in years. My driver is from 2004 (with a new upgraded shaft) and my irons are from 1996...

Yeah Im going to see if I can find a pro shop once I get some cash to blow to get some custom-fitted(This might mean no AFM '09 if I decide this route but idk). I some what agree as far as the Name Brand thing goes. Its the same thing with golf balls, there are some balls that just go all over the place when you hit them so you have to custom fit your ball with your swing type. Even though Dunlop isnt a more popular Brand of ball, it is more forgiving than your more expensive balls such as Callaway, Titleist or Nike. I've hit every name brand ball out there and Nike balls are good but too much for my pocket. I will buy them recycled any chance I get though.

I dont disagree.....I wouldnt ever have my clubs had I had to pay for them.....but they were free and custom fitting wasnt an option so I went with what I had.

The set of clubs I had before was a set of wilsons I bought second hand....they were worth I guess around 1200 bucks brand new.....but I got them for 200.....had they not been stolen I probably would still have them

Custom fitting probably does help your game.....but I know that when I went from my first set of clubs (sears brand) to the wilsons my game improved.....then when i went to the taylor made/titleist I noticed further improvement.....it also is likely that since I had really nice clubs I hit the course a lot more, which no doubt had a helping hand in the improvement.

Golfer here...worked as an assistant pro for 2 years, wanted to follow that route as a career, but I didn't like the business aspect of it. Now I just play for fun. I sort of lost interest while I was working in the industry, now that I'm not, I find it much more enjoyable. Worked for Clublink for a few years, could have played Glen Abbey for free, but never got around to it which sucks. Used to be a 5 index, quit for a few years, so my game went a little down hill, but not too bad.

I have played with some really good players as well. Best ranked player I've played with is in the top 250 of the World Amateur Golf Rankings, he's the best amateur player in Quebec and is now playing Div1 NCAA in Alabama. But the best player I played with was a kid in Florida. Apparently he missed going to the National Long Drive Champ, but a mere 2.5 yards. This kid was unbelievable, I guess Chi Chi Rodriguez was supposed to sponsor him or something, but from what I heard the kid got into some trouble with the law...I dont know, either way it was impressive playing with someone who can hit a 4 iron 270 yards

The only way to increase accuracy and distance is going on a high end launch monitor such as max out golf or a trackman. However, the costs of fittings have risen from 4 years ago. Trackman is a good outdoord launch monitor however it is only good in calm and summer conditions. Your best bet would be to go on a max out launch monitor because it shows how much load you put on the shaft which can determine the right shaft for you! It also shows launch angle, ball speed, spin rate, and total/carry distances!
