And all the while in America I thought racism was really bad back in the day but I suppose in modern day China its still relatively existant.

I read this Time article about this half Chinese/African American girl who was born to a Chinese mother and an African American father..in short she never knew her dad..and then went on a nationally broadcasted show in Shanghai only to be met with some fierce opposition on the show itself.

I didn't hear that story but its sad really. The girl did nothing wrong but damn the comments from that one website..just kinda blew me away.

The girl is gorgeous though, but you can't blame it on her solely because her mother had an affair.

Yeah, China is extremely conservative. Very controlled.

She's very pretty. But definitely not a look that... well... would fit in anywhere. That girl would stand out no matter where she was (good thing she's pretty!)

In terms of social tolerance, modern China probably makes 1950s US look tame. I mean, they have so many people, and unlike the US, they're all relatively "the same" (comparatively... no Irish people to compare with Italian people, for example) Someone THAT different in appearance is a big deal.

They'll come around eventually. Until then, someone like her deserves respect for being able to deal with it... I'm sure she runs into difficulty from time to time.
