I am a new mechanic and i am getting my experience first I don't have any ASE's yet. I am lucky to even have this opertunity. I work on all types of cars but honda's are my favorite easy money. I get paid flat rate which is great but sucks also. I am wondering if anyone has the mitchell's prep books. I am going for brakes and suspension this spring. I need to pay the matco and snap-on people. I know these test's are real hard. Any suggestions?

Check into a local vocational or community college. Some trade schools will help you get your certification. Be prepared to have to go thru at least a year's worth of schooling to get your cert.Former: 90 Accord EX Coupe, 93 10th Anniversary in Frost White

Well i was going to a community college for automotive but i did not learn much there I am not a school type. I learn by doing and hands on experience. I have learned so much working on my own plus i am the kid in the shop and all the other older guys take care of me and help me out. I will be going to try to get all the license to be a master tech and possibly my smog license here in CA.

Confuse you with wording...hmm, substance is not the main concern then...that's just sad.Originally posted by BustedLX
At the school I went to they had pre-tests on the computer just like the real test and I practiced with those.
The tests aren't that hard but they try to confuse you with wording mostly.

I'm currently enrolled in a tech collage program for auto tech, graduate in May '05. My instructor told me in order to take the ASE tests, you have to have two yrs. shop experance, and a two year tech program only counts as one yr. . But, you can cheat the system (like I'm doing!
) if you work in a shop for at least one of the two yrs. you are enrolled in a tech program. They count your schooling and work exp. seperatly!

Well that is the thing I have to do. I am getting my experience now at work. But the schooling is the thing i am stuck on now. I need to do research on a school to go so i can qualify for it. But I do know that I can get the Certifiaction like in spring but it is not a full ASE. They kinda put it on hold till you get the full qualifications.

In my opinion they do confuse you with wording. They make the situation very close to sevral answers. Like for example, they make it where the pedal is going to the floor. So you have to decide if it is leaky wheel cylinders, calipers, or brake lines. But it also could be a master cylinder.
