    BSTEDCB7's son's brain surgery!!!!!!

Ok I know that forum isn't where you guys would typically expect to find me but I know how many of you are good friends with Bstedcb7. This is his girlfriend. Some of you know our current situation with our son but others of you may not. Here is the link to as where everything is posted about Trevor: http://cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=14761
I know some of you may have already helped fizzbob out and that is wonderful of you all. But I wanted to go ahead and give it a shot...what's there to loose? If anyone could please help us out with our son it would be appreciated in many many ways. I just found out on Friday that they need us to come donate blood for Trevor's surgery in Jan. Insurance does not cover limited donor storing of blood and they are going to charge us over $2000 per time to donate with a minimal of 4 donations. I know you all spend a lot of time on this site as well as many others If you could do me the favor and copying my post to any other site that you feel would help us please do so. If anyone is willing to help out donations to my paypal are being taken. My paypal is fany025 its my yahoo address. And you can just put in there it's for Trevor Miller, craniotomy (brain surgery) on Jan. 14th, 2005. Thanks to all of you who help. Its a real blessing to know that there are people out there who may not know you all that well but are still willing to stand behind you 100%. And to those of you guys who I have talked to on AIM personally about all of this that is going on, I really appreciate it. I am stressing so much over this and it's a month away. I don't know if I can handle seeing my little guy go through all of this. I sit up all hours of the night wondering what went wrong. I find myself constantly taking blame for all of this even though the doc said Trevor was born with this. Its just a mental breakdown for me. Ok, I know this is a CB7 site so I will stop with the girlie whining now. Once again, we appreciate all you guys do and if you can do nothing more than spread the word and just pray for us....that is just as good. Thanks and God Bless you all.

I may not be able to help you with money, but I WILL pray! I have a four and a half month old baby boy myself, work part time, go to school full time, and the baby pretty much is my wife's only job, so cash is pretty much non existant for us. But prayer is free. Good luck to you and your family, and may God bless you too.

Thanks fizz. We are willing to try ANYTHING to get the blood for him. $2K is NOT easy to come up with. Anyways if you have AIM fizz hit me up.

Also all your guys' prayers are SO helpful. People like you guys and things like prayers and support go a LONG way with stuff like this going on in our lives.

but i'll make a donation, will bstedcb7 be online in the next day or so?

Far as I know, this is also correct. I just finished a basic public speaking class in collage, and a girl in my class who is a member of the U.S. military did her persuasive speech on blood donation (as did approx. 3-4 other people...) and she said in her speech you could donate blood for yourself in case you needed surgery in the future, and they would hold it for you...

what hospital, who's the doctor and was it benign? is he gonna need kemo?

why don't you put the cans @ the gas stations and grocery stores. i see it alot around here for various needs, like people losing homes to fire/flood. childern in need of medical treetments parents can't afford.

i know first hand, when i was 15 i had a cyst the size if grapefruit removed from my skull. very painfull and hard on the family.
i'll find out where we went for help.

I'll be donating towards your son's procedure for sure. Count on it. And for everyone who's reading this, I believe any amount is fine. Every little bit will help.

Thanks guys your comments and other help is wonderful. There is NO way around us having to pay for blood donations. Trust me I spend and ENTIRE day on the phone with several specialists. The cyst is NOT benign. It is cerebral spinal fluid filled. And the surgery is being done at the University of Iowa. Special thanks to you Fizz. Your brother is in our prayers too. And whoever said it earlier is 100% correct....anything helps even if it's 50 cents here and 50 cents there. Thanks to all. Tiffany

Oh yea, the other answer is his doctor is Dr. Arnold Menezes. No chemo will not be necessary because it is fluid filled. But a shunt may be required. For those who don't know it's like a permanent catheter that would be place beneath the skull and allowing the fluid to drain off the brain and down to somewhere near the stomach...intestines or somewhere in that region to be absorbed and released naturally from the body. We hope that just a one time drainage will be all that he needs. That's what we are praying for right now atleast.

Another thing about the blood is we are creating a personal blood bank for just Trevor for a PARTICULAR reason. I guess it's different if you donate just for the "what if" scenario. Because then the blood is just there for an unknown time for no particular reason. But when you have a particular procedure that you are donating for they call it Limited Donor and for some STRANGE reason they have to charge you a little over 525 for each time and our doctor has requested 4 donations be made. That is how they explained it to me atleast. It's just like when a baby is born and you can choose to store cord blood, which is the blood from the umbilical cord. You have to pay for that yourself as well because it's your own personal bank. They don't put it in what they call the General Public Blood Bank. Any other questions or comments please feel free to ask. Thanks guys!

I know that being charged to DONATE blood semms all a little too weird to you all. There is no other option for us, trust me I talked to our insurance company who said they do not cover blood storage. I talked to Jer's insurance company, our neurologist, the lab people who take the blood, and Trevors own pediatrician as well and they all told us the same thing. If you all say that you donated and WAS NOT charged please tell us how you went about it? Was it the Limited Donor program? That is the program we are going through.

You guys that have donated like that, please give me the name and place and number of where you donated and we will contact them. Maybe they could give us a little info about it.

thanks fizz I will call up and see what they can do and let them know I have heard form a few people now that say this is how and what they did. The university is MASSIVE also so I wouldn't see why they couldn't do the same thing.

bsted, I wonder if you could go down to the hospital that Fizz donated to and donate some blood there... Maybe they'd let you do it, then you could have your hospital transfer it! Sounds pretty backwards, but then again, the fact that you can't donate free at your hospital is just as backwards!
