    first rant

we all have those special bonds with our cars, correct? a lot of people dont like anyone driving their cars at all. i feel the same way times 1000. i feel like this car is my son and i dont want anyone touching him. it's my first car and i feel this fatherly overprotectiveness over him.

so this is all understandable, not letting friends or loved ones even driving around the baby but parents? one would think they should be able to drive it, even more when theyre the one who bought it.

my rant is about my dad. he bought me this car before i was legally able to drive it and i couldnt have been happier. what pisses me off is how he just expects it to be like his second car, for when he runs into troubles. he got the car for me. it stays at MY house (parents are divorced). i'm the only one who drives it except for my mom. i dont like when my mom drives it but at least im not afraid of how it's going to return to me.

when my dad takes my car, the son in me wants to believe he'll bring it back in one piece, happily ever after. the more knowledgeble side of me is worrying frantically that it's going to get stolen, or he's going to sell it behind my back.

so now, the story i guess lol. (sorry for the length). about a month ago, his car got a flat tire so he showed up at my house left his car parked in front and took my car and brought it back a week later. no warning, just said his car was broken so he felt he could use mine. in my head i was thinking get your own damn car fixed and leave mine alone, but you know that feeling when you cant talk to your dad like that becuase youre afraid? i feel that all the time with him. i cant tell my dad anything. my mom says i shouldnt keep it bottled up but i dont know what else to do. more recently however, his car was "stolen" and now it's his excuse to come and pick up mine.

i really dont feel comfortable when i watch him drive away and it almost hurts me to the point of tears when i think about what he's doing.
maybe im too paranoid, and i should trust my dad more, but he's bi-polar and hasnt been trusted by my mom for years. some of that trickled down to me i guess.

so i still dont have my car back and im waiting for my dad to show up.

SHORT VERSION: my dad has taken my car away twice (not for punishment) because something has disabled him from use of his own car.

thanks for reading, i had to get this off my chest

Who's name is on the title?

My parents bought my car, but I paid for it (too young to sign any sort of contract, thus parents signed).
It was in their name, as soon as it was no longer in their name, they can't use it without my permission and they respect that.

So if your dad bought it, paid for it, and is in his name... really can't see the gripe. But if your dad bought it, paid for it, and is in YOUR name, then I can see the gripe.

what he's saying is, his dad bought the car for him, so therefor it is "his".

I feel where you're coming from. I paid for my cb but it's in dad's name because I was underage at the time and for insurance purposes. the only time he has driven my car is from where I bought it to my house, because of no tag. My mom drove it for the first time monday because her car was broke down. her i don't mind, him I don't want driving it. so I know exactly how you feel.

I agree with not letting anybody touch your car...

I wont let anyone drive my baby... Is my first car and I've driven her for over a year. The only accident I've had was going into a ditch last year. I love my car and if anyone other than me were to get into an accident in it. I'd just flip...

I think there are original miss-communications at play that bring about the feeling you have.

One, when your dad bought the car did he say "This is your car, no my car, or or moms car or anybody's car, it's your car."

Two, What did you contribute too it now? Insurance? Gas? Repairs? Repaying your dad back for buying you a car you love so much?

Three, Whose name is the car in? Ultimately this decides who "owns" the car. It also looks weird if your dad owns the car but the insurance is in your name.

If your dads car is broken and he tells you this, would you give him a ride? From my perspective your in a pretty big F-U mood towards your dad who bought you a car. I don't know about other people out there, but I'd help out any way I could if that was the case.

Try and find a middle ground, being so negative towards the situation won't help you at all.
Been a long time. Still alive...

glad my parents give me some respect when it comes to my vehicles. even if they payed for it (payed half for 2) my mom still doesnt drive it. she doesnt even want to turn it on.

i see what you mean but if the title is under your name and everything tell him to fuck off OR you offer to take him to work or whatever. for a flat tires its called fix a flat. ive been on a fix a flat for a year now (dont ask how lulz)and ive driven to both coasts of florida more than once.

How old are you again? A car is just a car, I fail to see how material possessions are more important than bonds Maybe that is just me or my upbringing from a much different demographic.

                          1) Buy your own car
                          2) Suck it up
                          3) Confront your dad

Those seem to be your options at the moment.

My parents don't like driving my cars because one of them is manual and the other is too much of a shitbox.

it almost hurts me to the point of tears when i think about what he's doing
So what does he do....? Street race with it? Do donuts on your street? Pick up chicks with it? Do you know how to change a flat?

I agree completely. If it's his, even though you have a special bond with it, let him drive it when he needs to.

I let my gf, dad, mom, sister, friends drive my car. Is there full coverage on it?

                            life is good.

to answer some questions i think we cosigned at the DMV. also, what i mean by the things he does with it... i'm just so unsure, i cant help but to think of all that could go wrong. i mean, i dont know where the guy lives, he moves around a lot. im not entire sure where he works. i dont know who he hangs out with. he's a weird friendly guy and i can picture him giving rides to complete strangers (he's done it before). i just cant be certain if the car is going to return to me than say when my mom takes it work.

and about the paying back for the car, granted he did everything basically. all i have to do is gas and any/all repairs that come along (which i have done so far with no help from either of my parents because i didnt want them to help me, my car, my responsibility). also, it's not like he offered to help much before this car even came into play. when my moms car was stolen a while back, her friends had to drive us to school because my dad said he couldnt. what was stopping him? i dont know. he's also very shy to express himself. when my mom's car is acting up we get no sympathy and my mom has to pull money out of her ass to pay for stuff.

if you couldnt tell i am a mommas boy becuase i know no better.
