Jackstands, and wheelchock. E-brake, and first gear/reverse depending.

sometimes not even all of that can save you from 1 simple mistake. my neighbor who is a rotory mechanic just had similar accident few days ago. Car fell on him and rotor cut his chin open, almost died if it wasnt the someone walked to his garage.

This is why i lik working in a shop. I get to know the guys real well and they'll either do work, on the lifts, of theyll let me use the lifts on their days off.

You forget that he was working on an S2000....it is RWD. E-brake only locks up the rear wheels. Trans lock AGAIN will only lock up the rear wheels. Chocks should have been used on the front wheels. That is why I have an AWD....my shit is all kinds of locked up at all times

        Sucks this happened though.

Yeah, knowledge about what you drive is also important, you can't just lift any car just the say way we lift our CBs. Honestly, in a car like that you have to raise the whole thing unless your on a perfectly flat surface, and even then wheel chocks have to be put on both sides of each wheel. It's scary though, I had a Fiat 124 Spyder fall on me because I was working on it outside in the rain. The only thing that saved me was the soft muddy ground when I got compressed into it. It's sad though to see this happen.

Make sure you use the safeties on the hydraulic lift -- they can come crashing down just as easily as a hand jack.

It is a shame. I don't think I would call it a "simple mistake". It is a fairly HUGE safety issue. Using a jack and no stands while you change a tire (and aren't underneath it) is one thing, but working on a differential laying underneath the car for an extended period without the correct safety equipment?

That's a "simple" mistake like driving a car with only 1 lug nut instead of all four, because the 1 "should be plenty as long as nothing goes wrong".

People die a LOT from this issue, or lose hands, feet, legs, arms, etc. Jacks fail -- that's a fact. We all know it to be true, and simply ignoring that fact doesn't make it a "simple" mistake, it makes it gross negligence. Be safe guys, I do not want to see a thread like this on our forum.
