A sad reminder of the risks we take working on our cars.

Jackstands, and wheelchock. E-brake, and first gear/reverse depending.
Safety comes first.

It is a shame. I don't think I would call it a "simple mistake". It is a fairly HUGE safety issue. Using a jack and no stands while you change a tire (and aren't underneath it) is one thing, but working on a differential laying underneath the car for an extended period without the correct safety equipment?
That's a "simple" mistake like driving a car with only 1 lug nut instead of all four, because the 1 "should be plenty as long as nothing goes wrong".
People die a LOT from this issue, or lose hands, feet, legs, arms, etc. Jacks fail -- that's a fact. We all know it to be true, and simply ignoring that fact doesn't make it a "simple" mistake, it makes it gross negligence. Be safe guys, I do not want to see a thread like this on our forum.
