In good condition, they burn a quart every 3000 miles. They are designed to do that.
The problem with rotary engines is that most people don't understand them. Owners and mechanics alike. People abuse regular cars all the time. People abuse sports cars even more. A sports car with an engine that you don't understand (with everyone giving piston-engine advice as far as maintenance goes)... probably with multiple owners? Forget it.
I'd LOVE an RX-7... but as a project only. They're fantastic cars. Very well made. That particular one looks very nice. But even the seller says it needs an engine rebuild. By this time, most of them have already been rebuilt once anyway! Rotaries usually need an overhaul at about 100k.
"VERY fast" he says.
Those things are torqueless. Gutless. The non-turbo models handle well, but unless you're racing Smart cars, you're not going to be winning any races. The rotary has potential, and the horsepower is impressive for an engine displacing only 1.3L... but it is not a very fast car!
