    Lost Title.. any ideas?

Okay so i am in the process of buying a another accord. Only little problem guy cant find the title. He seems like he might not wanna go through the process of getting the title. So my question is, any idea of what this process is? like a trip to DMV or phone call or a form that can be filled out on the internet? any ideas would be great. I really don't need the title as this car will be full stripped and then junked after I am done with it. Anyone ever run into a problem similar to this. What i am suggesting is get a printed document and having it signed by both of us and Notarized and using that as proof of purchase. What you guys think? I want this car asap, so i can start getting my current accord ready for the NYC meet . Let me know if you guys have any ideas. thanks in advance.

You'll want a document signed by both of you proving sale anyway. Getting a new title is easy, just takes a little waiting. Head over to your nearest DMV and fill out the proper forms and pay the fee (WA it's like $60 for a duplicate approved title to a car). I wouldn't think you'll run passed $100 though. Just look up your local DMV online and give them a buzz.

Keep the guy you're buying the car from around though, the DMV might have some questions for him. Really though if he's not willing to go get a new title then it sounds like a shady deal to me. Laziness is one thing, but finding out later that you bought a stolen car and then stripped down to nothing will really put a kink in your future plans.

Steps to do here (not sure if it's the same where you are):

1.) Meet with guy at DMV.
      2.) Guy requests duplicate title.
3.) DMV prints off "temporary" title.
4.) Guy signs the temp title to you.
5.) You turn in the temp title and register the car.
6.) New title now comes to you in 4-6 weeks.

yea i was doing some heavy reading after i posted this since it got slow at my job, and i see its all just filling out some papers and its shows it at 60 bucks. yet it saids u need to show the current registration papers and proof of insurance. The car has been off the road for a couple of months . So i guess u show the paper work for the the last time it was registered and insured?

Give the DMV a call and ask them. That sounds logical, but that doesn't mean it's right...

I bought a car without a title. The guy was going through a divorce. I gave him $500 down, took the car, and promised $500 when I got the title. For 3 months, he couldn't find it. One day, large Russian guys were tossing his furniture into a dumpster. His house got foreclosed on, and he was gone. I never found him, and I was left with a car I couldn't register. One day, the car disappeared as well.

If he can't or won't get you the title, walk.

do what i did. theres a little charge called "failure to deliver proper title". talk toy our DMV about it. its a criminal charge and can have a fine and/or jail time. for a year the CB i have hasn't been registered because the woman kept giving me the run around about the title. so finally last week i told her we can get the title done within the next 4 days or i can file the charge against her.

after all the times she never called me back, she finally called me back like 5min later and said we can get it done whenever i was free. lol. its funny what people will do when you put a little fire to their arse.

Registering cars in the states sounds like a pain in the ass.

I can buy any car here, as long as it does not have a salvage or write off title, go to the registry agent with no paperwork about the car other than a bill of sale and valid insurance on the vehicle, and $22 will have it registered and road legal.

If you dont need a title to register the car then why does it matter if it has a salvage title?

in Texas I can tell you how it goes.

You will need to have the bill of sale completely filled out and signed by both parties

and if the owner does not wish to come to the office, you will need a signed note stating the current owner is allowing you to get a copy of the title
you will also need to have with that signed note a copy of the current owners drivers license.

After you get the title...now you have to get the sellers signature on it...either way, he will have to do plenty. But he CAN sit on his ass and let you do the leg work

If the seller is unwilling you are screwed as far as I know.

Call your local DMV and just ask...they can tell you for a fact what you need...but agreed...if the dude just does not want to get the title...walk...or your car will end up gone along with your money.
