No there not the same company, but y split hairs over the name they share quite a few powertrains and platforms even after ford sold over half of its mazda share. And a ford powertrain is nothin to jump for joy over.

What year Civic did you get? I assume a new (or at least newer) one?

Yep.
Hey, guys... told my son about here... said you guys have been helpful, and got me out of a few tight spots.
He needs to adjust the parking brake and replace the right front fender... and at some point, he should replace the spark plug seals (oil on the plugs). Between here and the Haynes and Chilton I gave him, he should do okay.
I bought a '98 Civic EX Coupe. 74,XXX miles. Bone stock... the only mod I've done is a Kenwood... will do nicer 14" wheels when these tires are cooked (need the snow traction, live on a steep hill). The engine is WEAK! compared to my slightly tweaked CB7 (ghetto short ram and light flywheel). But I'd have to spend decent money to get more horses... I've been adjusting my driving to more conservative habits. -- In an EMERGENCY, it's got more pickup if I wind it up over 5,000 rpm, and the stock air filter and drive train feels like it can handle that every now and then, and still give me 200,000. So... it's either drive like grandma (I'm getting used to it), or drive like a madman (don't need the tickets)... there's no middle ground like the CB7. It will be good for me, though, I think.
Thanks, everybody, it's been a good ride.
Anybody know the best forum for 98 Civics?
