    Canadian Tire

Maybe its just here in Quebec, and maybe it has something to do with me being english, but I have had nothing but bad experiences with Canadian Tire. Today is a great example. I took my beautiful CB7 in for a simple alignment because all of my tire symptoms are pointing at a bad alignment, and we all know that it cant be done at home. Lord knows I dont want a grubby fucking mechanic touching my car. They tell me my outer boot is torn wide open (news to me, it wasnt torn yesterday when I checked my ball joints) and my inner tie rod needs to be replaced (and I was pretty sure there was no play in the steering at all). Anyway I say yes do whatever you want. They tell me its safe to drive and to come back in a few days when they get the parts they need. Whatever. I get home and a guy I know who works there calls me, and tells me the mechanics are laughing at this 20 year old car that just came in. They say it isnt worth putting another 10 cents into this car. This person is also a friend of my mom, and now both of them are trying to convince me to get rid of this car and go buy a "good used car" for a grand. Well you should see how fast I called back to cancel my appointment. They asked why, and I told them to go fuck themselves. I will take my business elsewhere. I cant believe how arrogant some people are. The fucking nerve. Coming from people who dont even check their own fluids, let alone understand how a car works. I am fucking wild with anger right now. I'll surrender my car when some crazy old lady blasts through a red light and knocks me clean off the road. Which in this province, isnt farfetched.

that is fucked up, especially since the cars they're probably driving are no better than some 20 year old "piece of shit". unfortunately, we all have to deal with these kind of people who place themselves higher than you just because of what you drive. all the kids at my school think they're royalty becuase my 20 year old "piece of shit" can't compare to their subarus and cars that mommmy and daddy just bought them.

on the other hand, the entire crew at a local car wash complimented me becuase my car was so clean and they couldn't believe the mileage.

one man's trash is another man's treasure i suppose.

mileage isnt even a valid measurement of a car's age. i've seen cars that are just a few years old with higher mileage than i have.

i once saw a bumper sticker somewhere on this site. it read: "before you hate, how much wrench time have you put in?"

it really sticks in my craw when people cant understand that i put my sweat, money and literally my blood into this car, and even though its 20 years old, is still more reliable and more powerful than many cars you see on the road today. not to mention in remarkable shape compared to other cb7s i see around this city

i love that quotation and completely understand. i personally havent done all that much work, but i helped and watched simply because im not so mechanically inclined lol. it's like that other statement, "built not bought". i love that because we have so much more respect for our cars because we put our hearts into them. no one else has the right to disrespect you for that, especially those douchbags at the tire place.

sometimes we flame ricers but they probably put in all the work they did. i mean, no shop professional or not would put some of those crappy things we see sometimes. but at least they did the work, not ask their mom to bring out the plastic card.

            Or condition

At school everyones asking why i bought a new car

            I start out by saying

Theres no rust on the body
The paint is in better shape
            It gets better gas mileage
            It dosent burn oil
            auto tranny shifts great still

Then they ask how many miles

When i say 293k their jaws drop and they proceed to tell me my car is going to blow up in the near future.

Funny thing is, I took my car to get aligned at firestone today, and I overheard the guys joking about my car saying "its more like this car needs a whole new front suspension, not just an alignment. Apparently my Drivers LCA is bent and thats why it was off after I put on my acura CL hubs. Its weird too bc my car was fine before I put them and its supposedly the "same" part.

Either way, I didnt care. BTW, from a financial perspective, it dosent make sense to put any money into a 20 yr old bc of the odds that it will need more maintenance money soon. You're just playing the odds.

You just got lucky. Im sure there are a few around, but not every 300k car is going to be in as good a shape as yours.

Everyone is intitled to their opinions. As a mechanic I dont want to see a 20yr old pos come into my shop and have to work on it...
Most work places are like vegas, what happens there stays there and that's how it should be.

It doesn't matter where you take your car, it's a fwd grocery getter. I drive one. People can and will say what they want.

                        What does that mean?

Canadian tire sucks balls....Most of the people who work there are kids trying to get their apprenticeships.....I got lucky by growing up beside a garage so they do alignments and stuff like that for free.....Ive brought in so many cars people just throw away that they just laugh and tell me what needs to be fixed to safety it.

Yeah, I don't bring my car to Canadian tire anymore...did it once for an oil change and they give me a call saying I need like $700 worth of stuff fixed!!

I just told them to do the oil change and I'll take my car somewhere else...fuck Canadian tire for car repairs, I'll buy my parts and stuff and do it myself...I won't bring my car in for some kid to "practice" on...
