    Operation Repo

Anybody watch this show on TV?

I dont watch tv that often but I've come across this show a few times and it's really entertaining. It's crazy how stupid some people are.

If you havent seen it, it's definetly worth a watch.

I've been seeing it on here on the OLN channel, usually around 7-730pm during the week.

Most if it is real, as far as repos taking place, but people have to sign a release... and most of the "scenes" are "re-enacted" for effect.

However, I work in foreclosures... going out to the properties to talk to the people losing the houses. And I can tell you from personal experience, people DO do some stupid shit.

Its actually insulting how fucking fake it is. Like they don't even try to hide it.

Both. Like... one lady said "My mortgage company sold my loan to some other bank, and never told me who... so I stopped paying."... now that unknown bank was foreclosing!
Then there was the guy who claimed to be the owner's "friend", and kept asking questions that he thought were clever, trying to get information out of me without giving me anything in return. He was so smug, thinking he was getting the upper hand. I told him nothing, but let him believe he was getting what he wanted. Eventually, I just asked him for the owner's phone number, which he gave me. Then he went inside, phone in hand. Waiting for my call. I knew he was the owner... the pompous ass had a picture of himself on his company's website! I'm a private investigator with a psychology degree... I know a hell of a lot more than people think!

Then there was the guido that followed me into the street and tried to fight me... or the guy that asked "how do you sleep at night?" (to which I replied "fetal position, sir", once I got onto public property and he refused to stop harassing me...)
Or the guido in the wifebeater that tried to steal my notebook when he decided that he didn't want me to have the information that he had just given me (like I don't commit it to memory anyway... I was a waiter, it's not hard to remember a short list of things!) I had positioned myself stupidly... and I had to get past him to get to the only exit on his porch. He grabbed for my notebook. I looked him in the eye, and he realized very quickly that he was about a half second away from a broken arm... You DO NOT touch my notebook. Without that, I don't get paid... and that's not happening!

The idiots and the tough guys are the easy part.

The hard part is sitting with an old couple in their 80s. The wife thought I was a pizza guy, then remembered that she hadn't called for pizza yet. The husband couldn't walk anymore, and was a veteran (WW2 or Korea, I suppose... didn't say). My job involves questions that take about 45 seconds to ask. I sat with them for half an hour, listening to what they had to say. They bought their house with cash, in the 60s. Their first and only house. They had a son who was bad with money, and got in deep with some shady business deal. They took out a mortgage, their first mortgage ever... to help dig him out of that hole. The son lost it all again. The old folks were losing their house, and had no way to save it. After talking for half an hour, they asked if I'd like to stay for pizza. I declined.
That was the winter of 2006. I couldn't tell you their names, but I can still see their faces, and I remember every detail of their story.

Or the old couple that came to the door, and heard what I had to say. The woman had a scarf on her head (this is late Spring, 2007). No hair. They explained that she had terminal cancer, and spent every last cent on chemotherapy to keep her alive as long as possible. They understood exactly what was happening, both with the house and with her illness... they made their decision, and had accepted it. There was no fear, shame, or sadness in their eyes. Just acceptance. The calm understanding that they're going to make the best of every last second together.

The assholes, the jerks, the guys that I come close to knocking out... the crabby old ladies that call the cops on me... I forget those. They just become interesting stories. Stuff that I tell people for fun, to make them say exactly what you just said, Noah.
But the ones that I just described... those will never leave me. Those are the people that I meet that make the job difficult... but at the same time, those are the people that make it all worthwhile. Even though I'm working for the "bad guys"... I take pride in the fact that I can, in some way, be a source of comfort... just by listening to these people, and letting them know that they're not alone.

well then i'd rather have you tell me i'm losing my place than the next guy. at least you're more empathetic. i don't think i could ever have your job. i have a hard time telling people the small things i know they'll hate hearing.

The first season or two seemed pretty legit and real. But the last new episodes I saw were clearly scripted.

It's still a funny show though.

Fake or not, it's just entertaining.

I watched one last night where the bald headed Macho guy got tazed by a guy and he hit the ground like a sack of bricks and pissed his pants.

It's funny watching people bitch and moan about getting their stuff taken away when they havent paid for it. "I'm entitled to everything I want because I can, and you can't take it from me!"
