    ::::gt4 Online Thread::::

ok, after much aggrevation, i've finally gotten xlink to work with my ps2...
the method i used was 2 networking cards with crossover cable... i havent yet gotten it to work with a router, but i will update as soon as i figure it out

there are many configurations you can use:

    1. 2 Networking cards with a crossover cable (preferred method)
    2. Using a router

SETUP FOR 2 NETWORKING CARDS + CROSSOVER CABLE

(This is assuming you already have a networking card for your broadband connection.)

    1. Buy another networking card from either Circuit City, BestBuy, Compusa, or NewEGG.com. Also buy a CAT5e cross-over networking cable.

    2. Install the card into a free PCI slot in your computer, and install the drivers.

    3. Plug in the cross-over cable to the back of the PS2 and to the new networking card you just installed.

    4. Register a username and download Xlink Kai Evolution VII from www.teamxlink.co.uk

    5. Install the software you download, if it says "download failed" when you try to start it, keep trying, it sometimes does that when so many users try to download from their server.

    6. Once you get the software up and running, enter an Arena, click the globe icon.

    7. After that, click on the Magnifying glass and determine if you are network reachable. It should say "yes"

    8. Turn on your PS2, and load up GT4. Make sure your connection settings are set to automatically get IP addresses.

    9. Get into the Multi-LAN race mode and then hit connect. If you get the waiting for connection screen, go back into Xlink and hit the magnifying glass and then the folder icon. It should say, "PS2 sucessfully configured."

    10. Once that happens, you're good to go.

    SETUP FOR ROUTER

    1. Buy a router and straight-through networking cables. (NOT CROSS-OVER)

    2. Connect your router to your cable/dsl modem via the WAN port and connect your computer(s) and ps2 on each of the LAN ports.

    3. Configure your router using the router documentation.

    4. Make sure that the router is NOT assigning the PS2 any IP addresses. You can do this by limiting the amount of IP addresses the router hands out. (Assign only the amount you need for your computers. i.e. 5 computers, 5 IPs)

    5. Follow the instructions from step 4 from the 2 network card setup.

    ENJOY

PM me or AIM me (craigu kun) if you get confused on the setup process.

I will add more later as to how to host games.

You are the MAN! I'm gonna add a link to this thread in the "Official GT4 Thread" since you know people will be asking how to do this!

I wish it wasn't snowing! I have everything I need but a crossover cable! I have a regular network cable that I've used to connect the PS2 to my modem, but that wouldn't work, would it?

So, if I have the ps2 already setup to play socom... am I halfway done?

Where do i go to make sure the router is only handing out so many IP addresses?

We just have a router, and then a cable to each computer, and another to the ps2, is that ok?

Thanks for the help.. i cant wait to play it online.

the router situation i'm still working on... kai detects my ps2, but then it just stops at network initialization... it doesnt go to waiting for connection... but for the 2 networking card setup it works perfectly

What makes a crossover cable different from a regular cable?

you have to stop your router from assigning your ps2 an IP address, to do this you have to login to your router, go to the DHCP or LAN settings tab and restrict the amount of IPs to the number of computers... lets say the starting ip is 192.168.0.2, the ending IP should be 192.168.0.4 if you have 3 computers.

i dont know if i'm making any sense...

Ok, the network adapter is in. The crossover cable is plugged into the computer and the ps2. Xlink is running.

However, my network connection says "not yet" in the Xlink window (the magnifying glass window...) I haven't touched my settings. What am I doing wrong? Any idea?

Bah... now it says I'm network reachable, the folder icon says the ps2 is configured correctly, but it still won't connect. I had one instance where it ALMOST did something, but then said "disconnected" (on the ps2). I'm close!

Finally got it working... laggy as hell though! I had someone from CA playing, so that may have been it though.

Are you on now? (apparently you are )

For anyone who DOES get on, if you see an arena called cb7tuner, that's me. Anyone else can do the same if they can host. That way we can find each other

Nice!!! It works, and it works well. It was laggy the first time I played, but that was because peolple were too far away, I think. Keep it fairly local and it's good.
