I wouldn't mind shooting a gun. That looks like a lot of fun.

I remember when I went to the range for my first time. It was only a few months ago and my friend let me shoot his .40. First handgun I had ever shot. It was so much fun.

Shooting skills are a big part of my life.

Do it right though. Be legal in purchasing your weapons. Be legal in using your weapons. Be legal about where you use them. But most of all, be SAFE. Never point a gun, loaded or unloaded, at something you do not intend to destroy.

The skills you learn are not only fun and great stress relief, but can save your life some day.

For your first handgun, I suggest a Springfield XD or a Sig Sauer. Both GREAT quality weapons. The Sig will be more pricey, but better. The Springfield will be a bit cheaper, and the difference in quality is nearly unnoticeable. I've also heard great things about Taurus' out of the box accuracy, but I for one don't give 2 shits about OOTB accuracy. I'm sighting it in regardless, who really cares where it hits at first?

Have a blast man, and be safe! Post up when you buy one.

Thanks for the advice. I am pretty responsible but like any guy with a new toy, you get a little careless. My boy (Joe) told me that a lot of his friends who tried using the Taurus said it was garbage. For my first gun I am looking at the Springfield XDM or S&W M/P...or maybe even a 1911

For your first, it all depends on what you want to do with it and what your budget is.

9mm are bad about not expending their energy into your target. If you want something for home defense, Get a .40 or .45. My dad carries a Glock .45 and he loves it. (so do I)

1911's are the tits, but they're pretty big and harder to carry. Kimber makes a smaller version. It's pretty pricey, but very nice.

We're in the studio, stay tuned.----------(click)-------->

Try what I use to carry at work P226 or 229. Try the DAK or SAO with a .40 cal barrel.

9mm are just fine if you get the right ammo. I'd suggest 9mm over .45 at this point because ammo is cheaper and practice is key. Not to mention the fact that you can carry a higher round count with 9mm.

BUT this is an age-old debate. The big one for me is price for ammo.

Springfield XDM is a good gun for both carry and home defense. As is a lot of other manufacturers though. Glock and S&W are very similar.

Honestly, I wouldn't get the Sig 1911. Instead, take a look at Rock Island Armory. $500 GI models and they're very well made. Citadel is one that I've got my eye on. Both are made by the same company - armscorp

I would actually advise you to stay away from the Mosquito. I've heard they're pretty unreliable. Further, .22LR is only a carry option if you're disabled and can't handle a more powerful round. If you want a .22LR pistol, look into Ruger.

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think you can get either the 226 or 229 in SAO.

You make very valid points. I didn't even consider round count. However, I would still take bore size and muzzle energy over ammo price and round count.

Plus, I'm more comfortable shooting .40's
