    file assosiation problem win 7

I don't understand what this thread is asking me to do.

    http://www.technibble.com/forums/sho...d.php?p=215427

i removed a virus and every exe i launch comes up with open file with.

win 7 antivirus (virus) if anyone has seen it.
it pretends it's part of windows security.

    I cbf reinstalling windows.
can't even install direct x properly because of this launching error.

Is it all exe's or just your shortcuts? I know some virus removal stuff can wipe out you exe's but i cant remember how to fix it, I think ive done it before in XP not not windows 7

Basically all shorcuts I have to find the file where program launches. Right click and run as admin.
The open with screen is always opening and I can't check the box which states. Always use thus program.

Btw what's with the computer memory constantly depleting I don't have much on there and it says I have a lit less memory than I should have.

Fix this and you too can say win 7 I made you

Ah... this has happened to me before. Basically, the virus goes into the registry and deletes the association between a .exe file and running the executable. I fixed it with a restore point myself.

Have you tried a restore point from before you picked up the virus?

no I think I"m going to have to get a usb hard drive.
              reinstalling windows.

I was given a whole bunch of games. direct x not working properly won't let me do anything.

I turned off the restore point as it sucked up too much memory.

I don't have a great deal on the drive and it's almost full

I had to reinstall win7 on two computers for people who ran into this virus. It's a real pain in the neck.

can someone tell me what my 1st post's link was asking me to do.

I did do some searching but a lot of the tutorials are complex.
not just download a program and run it.

Im failry sure the virus that started this was called win 7 antivirus.
it self installed and took over my windows security.

I refuse to spend any money on anything but girls until I get my car back. In the shop now. New brakes new intake new shifter new exhaust new pipes new mufflers and hi flow cat. Installing some electrical components. power steering fluid. And heaps more stuff so I dont know what kinda bill I'll get back but playing world of warcraft can wait even though i have never played it.

Didn't you get a disc with that computer when you bought it? It should contain the operating system unless its a compact,HP or an Acer. Those three brands I have seen have a partition with the disc on it.

putting an os isn't an issue. just buying a usb hd atleast one terrabyte.
which i havent got around too.
only thing here is my music which i don't want to resort.
as i listen then delete songs.
