    Ebay exhaust really stainless steel?

I have been looking at some exhaust systems on ebay and most say they are stainless steel which does not rust but I have my doubts about it. I was quoted $650 to have a stainless steel exhaust done at a custom muffler shop but a whole system I found on ebay claiming it is T-304 stainless steel would cost me about $200. This is what the account claimed-

    Catback Exhaust:
100% brand new. never been tried or installed.
Made of high quality T-304 stainless steel.
Dyno proven increase low end torque and horse power
    Smooth and deep tone sound
    4" muffler exhaust tip.
No instructions included. Professional installation is highly recommended.

    Exhaust Header:
100% Brand New, Never Been Used or Installed
Made of High Quality T304 Stainless Steel Material
    TIG Welded CNC Machine Flange
O2 sensor insertion and metal gasket included
    1.75" Inlet, 2" Outlet
Increase High Flow Air, Gain 10~15 Hp. / Tq.
Professional Installer is Highly Recommended (No Instruction Included)

What I want to know is, is this really stainless steel? And is T-304 really a good quality stainless steel?

The thing is you can not trust anything made in China to be truly what they claim..

That exhaust in MA will get you pulled over all the time and will sound like crap.

the bad thing about that article is the fist section says t304 is inferior.

... Obviously, stainless steel products that turn rusty right away have LESS CHROMIUM content in its material and they are mostly made from t304 stainless steel.

then the following section mentions it the other way around

The difference between t304 and t409 stainless steel lies in their chromium content. T304 has MORE CHROMIUM component than t409 at 18 to 20 percent. It also has a nickel content of 8 to 10 percent. The t409 only has chromium content of 10.50 to 11.75 percent. Its nickel content is only 0.50 percent. The t304 has so much chromium and nickel content and very little ferrous material that magnets will not stick to it.

Knowing the difference between the t304 and t409 stainless steel will greatly help you when you buy stainless steel products. The t304 system will NOT oxidize or rust.

unfortunately they mixed up the two numbers in the second section but it could be misleading if someone didn't notice it

True. I thought that was a bit odd myself, actually. Perhaps it wasn't the best link to post. The Wikipedia article is so in-depth that it's very hard to follow, though.

it had good info but that one mistake could have some noob buying off ebay then bitching at you for him not doing his own research. but i assume you have gotten used to that already

              Yeah, very much...

At least I'd hope that referring someone to another site would get the gears turning, and make them think "hey, I can learn more information if I try searching for it!"

I'm not keeping the actual muffler that comes with it, I hate those things. I just wanted the piping it came with to put a RSX muffler on it. As for doing research I have tried but was completely confused about any website I found!

You completely confused me as well. In the beginning you stated that T-304 grade stainless steal with oxidize, then you stated T-304 will on oxidize?

I'd just go to reputable custom exhaust shop instead of that option.

Yeah, I was gullible enough to buy the ebay catback.

While it was nicely made and installed perfectly, it sounded absolutely terrible.

Exactly. Not only did mine sound like shit, it fit like shit too. Hung way to close, almost touching the chassis.

Wound up taking it to an exhaust shop about a month after I put it on. Cut the fart can off, and welded on a 03 civic si hatchback muffler, and fixed the piping so it would hang normally. Now it sounds much better, but after spending $125 on the exhaust itself and them another $50 on the muffler and then another $100 for install, you are better off just buying a name brand catback

Maybe I just get good luck sometimes but I also got the ebay catback. It cost me $120 and I had it installed by a member.

It may not fit perfect, but it doesn't rub against the frame. It doesn't sound like total shit (even though I still don't like it). I think every install is different but as for the material of the exhaust, it's been fine for quite a long time.
