    Rc racing, anyone do it?

I know we have some Rc car/truck owners out there, do any of you race if so any advise , tricks/tips to offer?

I have 6 cars now , but they are all bashers for the most part, however I am looking at a " Team accociated sc10" and start out small , my son and I can hit up the local races.

    thanks
    Jeff.

    Advice? =)

Start small. I used to race an RC18T in an onroad oval course. Box stock class. Only mods allowed were body, Factory option suspension, foam tires, and batteries (no Lipos, though)

Won 7 or 8 races, and had a BLAST. My mods were Team Associated Factory heat sink, shock upgrade, aluminum A arms, driveshafts, 18tooth pinion, McAllister Body, and a custom rear body support to stop people driving under you and loosening ya up. Also, RPM front bumper, incase someone doesn't want to pull over and let the faster car by! Ran rubber slicks at first, then switched to Panther Foam tires, and man, WHAT a difference. Car was just glued to the track.

I also raced my 2.5 Traxxas Tmaxx, both on and off road. We'd race the off road track one weekend, then road course the next.

For off road, I ran all stock suspension, Pro line solid white wheels with bowties, MIP stinger exhaust, aluminum fuel tank, and RPM bumpers. Took a lot of top 3's, never a win though.

On road, I ran aluminum arms, removed one shock on each corner (tmaxx came with 2 per corner, 8 total) which squatted her down neatly, and a supra body with a big 1/8 buggy wing. Ran panther slicks on proline solid whites. Took a couple wins, mostly top 3's though.

Advice- Don't try to fight a Jammin truggy off road. You won't beat it fair and square with a lesser truck. They're just too damn fast and the suspension design is out of this world.

Have fun. getting dead last in a race beats the shit out of a day at work no matter what.

Go out and break shit! How will you ever learn your car or trucks limits if you don't try that double and break an arm? Or try to get the lead by clearing the whoops instead of bobbling over them? I broke a transmission in the maxx one day skying over the whoops at about 45. an hour later, I had my back up tranny in, and got second in the main. What a day!

Experiment with different tire options. I find that Proline bowties are my best dirt tire, because they hook up good under light throttle, yet spin predictably under WOT.

Use practice sessions. Find apexs, comfortable fast zones, and work on improving corners or chicanes you aren't comfortable in.

Learn to turn with the throttle. For the longest time I tried running through slaloms or chicanes half throttle and steering with the front tires. Then I discovered that a slower entry meant hammering it 3/4 of the way through, and let that bitch pull itself out. Step the ass end out, let it slide, just point it where it needs to go and she'll get there quick.

It's honestly too much fun. Let us know how it goes, and get some pics!

i have a nitro R/C with an Audi TT body.

blew the motor in it tho. lol. actuator for the throttle came off when i hit a bump and made the engine go WOT for 10 seconds then it locked up. opened up the motor and the piston had metal shavings on it. ugh. now i gotta get another motor for it. love it to death tho.

been waiting on taking it to a track. wanna get it right before i take it out there. dont want it cutting out on me in the middle of a race. haha.

This is the truck I plan on racing http://teamassociated.com/cars_and_t...ry_Team/specs/

For starters I am going to go with a brushless system out of one of my old cars, and upgrade from there .

The stadium trucks are WICKED with a brushless setup. I want a nitro ST though... 4wd drifts and such, but backed by that sweet, sweet singing nitro engine. Ahh, I miss my old hobby.
