    Got fired....

Today is the first time I have actually been fired from a job.

I was working as a sales consultant at a dealer. I sold my personal Mazda 3 privately, while working there, and today I had arranged for someone to meet me as I left work to look at the Accord.

They looked at it for a bit and left, and I went back inside to grab my stuff to go home. Boss takes me and pulls me into his office and asks me "What the hell do you think you're doing?"

I was like "umm, someone came to look at my car...."

Then he goes on about this big rant how I'm selling cars privately on the side and competing with the company and taking sales away from the dealer. I'm like wtf, I'm not doing it for financial gain. Selling the Mazda was saving me money, cuz I'm sure as hell not making any here.

Basically said that working for a dealer, I'm not allowed to sell cars privately. Seems pretty fucking stupid to me.

At the end I was like WTF and he was mad and told me I'm done and come pick up my paycheck on Friday.

Whatever, he was a cockface. I think he was also looking for an excuse to get rid of me.

In general he has a point. In your case I dont think so. You should have offered to sell the stealership your car so they could sell it and make $. O yea they dont eant a 20 yr old car.

If you were meeting at the dealership to look at your car, then I could see how they would get upset. You're basically doing what you do for them, on their property... but not for them.

Granted, the car was not at ALL what would be competing with anything on their lot, I'm sure. It's not like you were stealing business away from the dealership by making a deal for a car worth no more than $1500.

Weren't you looking into working on the trains anyway? What happened to that?

I understand where he was coming from, and I told him straight up, I am not selling vehicles on the side for personal gain, profit or competition against my employer.

I sold my Mazda so I wouldn't go broke. Now I was testing waters on the Accord (found a wagon I'd like), and when these people only had the time available to meet me at work at the end of the day, I said, sure come take a look.

Then he says "So if you sell this car, what are you going to drive?" I said "I'll go buy another Accord." He goes "See. You took a customer from me selling your car, and then you go buy a car somewhere else and don't support your own employer."

I asked him "Do we have any $1000 Hondas on the lot? No, the cheapest car we have is a $3500 Pontiac Grand Prix. And I certainly do not want to finance another car, so what's the deal with buying and selling old beater cars for myself? I'm not making money on them. I need them for transportation to come to work and sell NEW cars to make money, so maybe I can eventually afford to buy a $30k car from here."

We argued over that for a bit and he asked me to leave and I just got up, shook his hand and said "If this is how it ends, I appreciate the opportunity you gave me here and I am sorry I didn't meet your expectations. I'll see you on Friday."

        So, left it like that.

Obviously it was my sole intention to be successful at the dealership moving product. But it's a hell of a lot easier to sell a $1000 car than a $30 000 car. Anyways, I'm not upset about it, I'll just move on to something else.

I couldn't handle the railway life, so I left in June to take this job. Might also add, it's the same dealer I bought the Mazda from and had a terrible purchase experience. So, I suppose it came full circle in the end. Sucks too, cuz I had a deal on a 2011 Outlander that I was in the middle of working on.

when the guy pulled you aside and let you know that you were being fired, did it feel like a punch in the gut?

I got laid off last October and that's how i felt at least. Shake it off and find something else. If your boss was as you said, you getting let go would have happened sooner or later.

Well... there are 2 good things to consider:

                1) you no longer have any dealings with that dealership... you sold the killer Mazda, and you don't have to worry about working for that dick anymore!

                2) Now you won't make the terrible mistake of purchasing an Outlander!

A few weeks ago, this guy came into our dealership and his Cavalier overheated and pissed coolant all over the parking lot. I helped him get it all cleaned up and everything, and then showed him a few cars on the lot.

After not really finding anything that peaked his interest, I pointed out my Mazda as a private sale.
Sucks but honestly I probably would of fired you to.

But the good thing is car salesman jobs are easy to get... Atleast here...

Yeah, I understand that selling my Mazda that way was a little shady, but the entire time I worked there, I told him I was selling it and had it for sale for about 6 months. He had no problem with me selling it. He told me in the office today "I gave you a break on the Mazda because you said you couldn't afford it, so I let you get away with that one."

But never, ever, did he ever say to me "you cannot sell cars privately." He daid "You cannot sell cars privately on the lot."

Boom. Kicker, right there. What did I just do today? Showed a car privately on the lot....while I was off the clock, but still on the property.

He's just been pissy lately because we've sold 4 cars all month.

Yeah I wouldn't even bother with that place... To put it in perspective I go to dealerships that do 600+ cars a month...

If you like selling cars move on to a strong brand... Honda Toyota Ford Hyundai

The first one is a combination of two things!

The second one is very important, though. Friends don't let friends drive Outlanders.
Mitsubishi, as a company, is like a fat dude that swallowed a diamond. When something comes out, there's one gem and a whole lot of shit.

Atleast this place was a foot in the door. He doesn't advertise, we're the lowest volume new/used dealer in town and he has a terrible reputation around town. All the other dealers hate him.

I can move on to bigger and better things now. I've got 3 months under my belt.

I take the Mitsubishi bashing personally. I actually like the products. I really do like the Outlanders. The Outlander Sport/RVR is really nice, but it's underpowered. The Lancers are a good all around car with one of th ebest manuals I've driven.

Eclipse....meh. Fast with the V6, but it's just an awkward car to drive.
