    Need advice on possible purchase!!

So someone i know has a 2007 Nissan 350Z Roadster that they want to sell to get out of their car payment. The payoff quote is $9k which is almost half what i think the car is worth. It has 68k miles on it.

I need to get more specifics but im really thinking on buying it and flipping it for a few grand profit. I think even carmax would give me $13k - $15k for it which would be a nice profit.

    Thoughts?

I couldn't see you in this thing as your primary ride... it's too flashy in the wrong way for the Dean I've gotten to know!

But yeah, if it's in good shape, and you really think you could unload it in a short time for a profit... go for it. 9K for what appears to be a rather clean, lightly modified Z roadster seems like a pretty decent deal. Hell, sell it for $11k and you'll see a nice profit... quickly.

I doubt I can even fit in that thing but i see dollar signs when i look at it. Shit, i might be able to sell it to my stepdad, he's been wanting one forever but my mom would kill me if i offer it to him

I'm going to check for a round about value i might get from Carmax or even one of the local dealers thru Autotrader.com. I think i can make a couple grand easy. According to KBB a car of that age/miles easily go for $17k in Good condition and $14.5k in fair condition so i think I cant really lose.

Yeah, if it's on KBB for that much, and knocking a few grand off that price STILL gets you a nice profit, do it!

Just be careful. If YOU could sell it for $4000 less than it's worth and still make a profit, so can the current sellers... and for whatever reason, they're not. Maybe they just need a quick sale... maybe they're stupid... or maybe there's something about the car that makes it worth less. Maybe they never changed the oil, or they fried the clutch, or blew the suspension...

Also, ask if they have the original wheels as well. Whenever I see a car for sale on aftermarket wheels, I automatically think "that was someone's project/toy... stay away!"

yea looks nice. deev said it though. it's oddly strange that the guy is "just trying to get out of the note" when the car is worth more than he owes. You would think the guy would have checked a place like carmax before trying to sell privately.

I'd just take a look at the carfax, and when you privately inspect/test drive, listen for engine knocks and noises, and check the undercarriage/under the hood around the shock towers for frame notches and non factory welds, which are big indicators of having been on a frame machine before.

carfax is pretty solid, but sometimes its easy for an accident to slip if its not claimed on insurance.

if the deal goes thru I will pay for a full inspection at a dealership just to make sure evrrything is tip .
