I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. Apparently, the film stars active duty seals who will remain anonymous by not having their names in the credits.

What were these active duty Seals, who were collecting government paychecks for their active service, doing making a fictional movie in the first place?
To be quite honest, I actually find it offensive that they're using this as a gimmick to sell tickets to what is probably an otherwise mediocre war/action movie with an obscene special effects budget. Unless they're filming a documentary, I think the idea is bullshit. At least the acting won't be worse than any other action movie...

I'm not sure if they collect any money. I don't know the details but the Navy is using it as a promotional media. Maybe the proceeds went to the Navy?
It's not all that different from the US Army's budget for America's Army.

The Navy allowed access to the helicopters, submarines, aircraft, etc for "free". The movie is relatively low budget.. The NAVY was all in by LETTING them act..Originally posted by deevergote View PostWhat were these active duty Seals, who were collecting government paychecks for their active service, doing making a fictional movie in the first place?

Its a recruitment tool

Yeah, I can definitely see how it's a recruitment tool... make the Navy look super cool, like every new recruit is going to be an action hero.
I dunno... I guess what bugs me is that they took active-duty SEALs and turned them into actors. Men and women that should be defending our country, and instead they're playing movie star. I'm not a military man, but I feel as if it's a mockery of those who serve. It's not so much the allocation of funds as it is the fact that these are active military personnel, not people to put asses in theater seats.
At least the Army's video game isn't occupying active troops. A video game actually DOES make sense, and being interactive, it's at least somewhat useful in teaching the basics of combat tactics. It's far from the real thing, certainly... but it's at least marginally productive. Just like racing games... I think I've learned quite a bit about race driving from the GT and Forza titles.

While Restrepo is great and has good action, being that it is real you just can't get the shots quite like in Act of Valor.Originally posted by Bcozzi71 View Postone of the few cool jobs in the USAF /\ /\ haha
the movie was supposed to be a recruitment film for the navy, however it was such a success they made it a feature film. I think its dumb having real navy seals in fake situations. If you wanna see real action watch restrepo...
And as for the Raven they showed in the movie, I saw one in a demo in 2010, and it sure as hell didn't have a controller with a full color camera and it was not able to put a box around hostiles, just friendlies with an infrared tag.Gary A.K.A. Carter
