Mobile browsing question (iPhone 4 in particular)

Occasionally I want/need to browse the internet on my phone. What I find frustrating is that sites that have special mobile versions automatically load those versions instead of the regular 'computer' version. Many of them don't offer an option to view the regular version, so I'm stuck with the mobile one. In most cases, that's fine.

For work, I use yellowpages.com to search for telephone numbers. The regular version of the site has what I need... a reverse search for residential numbers by address. The mobile site does not. I can only search businesses with the mobile version.

My question is, how can I disable the loading of the mobile version, and only view the "computer" version of all sites? I've looked on Google and not found anything helpful

is your phone jail broken? if so you might be able to use a different browser that will allow you to "disguise" your device so that you can view a web site in desktop instead of mobile. This is a common problem with people browsing on the iPad also.

It was jailbroken, but it was running like crap, so I upgraded the firmware and never re-jailbroke it.

Ugh, I was hoping that it was just a case of me being technologically retarded... but it seems it might be the device, and not me for once!

yeah... Safari will always identify itself to a web site as a mobile browser so that is what will load on your iphone when you surf the net with it.

Here's a temporary solution until I can find the permanent solution. Thankfully my Android phone allows me to disable mobile view.

Apparently "Atomic web browser" allows desktop view... It's in itunes but I don't think that its a free app... Seems you have to be jailbroken to disable mobile sites :/ I could have sworn that it was disabled on my ipod, that I no longer have.

I really hate that as well

Basically as said by leung, websites decide to direct the iphone/ipod touch to their mobile versions. Unless you have the ability to mask what kind of browser you are using ( which you can't with an unjailbroken phone ) then you are stuck with mobile sites

I bet somehow there is a way to get the iphone to show up as an ipad version of safari. The ipad does not redirect to mobile sites. \

I'm using Opera on my rooted Android, and desktop mode is a selectable option in the settings. I have no idea if you can get Opera on the iPhone/iPad.
