    AC/Central Air in your house

Does anyones house tempurture raise on a really HOT day or days its stay nice and cold at the tempurture you have it set for?

Today was a really hot one, 45C with the humidex, one of our hottest days of the year by far! I do property maintenance for a living and I was really looking forward to coming home in central air. Thought wrong came to my house being almost 30C!!!

The reason for this thread is cuz I got into a HUGE fight with my landlord over this and he is telling it normal for my house temperture to be at 28.5C!!!! I told him that he was fucking bullshitting cuz I felt other units PUMP air and there house stays cool all day long, no change in temperture vs. Mine wich is no where near to pumping out the air it should be.

What I really need is for anybody to tell me if the place temperture changes at al, and my landlord is also trying to get me to repair things that were already damaged before we moved in and trying to get me to repair a door a ex friend damaged, I refused and explained to him why!

And he also threated to call CAS(childrens aid soicety) on my three year old, cuz apprently I left him unattended for 2 hours, hence the door damage.

Well my mother and i keep the tstat at 75 and 76 from mid day and up to about 7pm then it automatically raises to 78 to shut off and holds it there throughout the evening.
It was uber hot here in Ohio today but it only felt like low 80s inside the house.

Well you either did or didn't.. There is no apparently to it.

On the a/c if the system is undersized/poorly maintained it will not be able to keep up. If it was my house 80 would be okay.. If I was renting 80 would be unacceptable.. Whatever I set my thermostat to it stays at.. But the unit is properly sized.

I got a little ass house with a big ass ac unit. So mine stays cool, but when it's 90+ with high humidity, it runs more. Ive also got trees that cover half the house, which helps a ton

Thanks for reminding me. I have to call Sears to schedule a maintenance since it was included with our warranty and all that jazz. The blower unit and electronic air cleaner was flooded last spring so ever since then we've had to keep a close eye on it. We can't afford to have it break down after the warranty expires.

With central air the unit should have a mercury trigger to maintain the temperature in the house. Now as far as everything else in the building between the termperature in the house and everything else that comes along with it between people leaving their doors open and stuff like that it would probably be hard for the place to stay a certain temperature.

When we had the new central air unit installed by Sears, we also replaced the thermostat to an electronic one. It has really helped our energy bill but switching electricity providers has given us the most savings of all. Before the switch, during the summer time, our energy bill would have been in the high 200s but after the switch its never gone over 200.

certain rooms in our house are hotter than others so we use fans to help circulate air to them; it really helps too.

now my room is in the basement so it's usually nice and cool except for uber hot days then even down here it's hot than sex.

Definitely not normal. My AC will keep the house at 74* inside on a 100 degree day with a door wide open (oops...ask me how I know!). Door didn't quite get shut all the way, and the wind blew it open while I took a nap (I'm old and lazy).

it depends on a few diff factors really.

like my house has the same problem. but my central system is really old, and is undersized to begin with, so it doesnt perform as well as it should. and my house is even older so its not insulated the best.

ChIoVnIdCa nailed it. i let it go because its my house and it performs ok enough for me (i also have a helper window unit which helps a lot)

if i was renting it would be absolutely unacceptable.

Like others have said if the unit is old or undersized then it will not perform properly.

But some other factors to consider are insulation, filter, and how the ducting is routed through the house.

I was told by multiple HVAC people that in the summer to use a thinner filter and change it ever 5-6 weeks. Also the layout of the house can affect the temperature. I have a 2 story house and the downstairs is 10-15 degrees cooler than the upstairs. Something that doesn't help though is that my ducts are routed through the ceiling in my upstairs instead of the floor so the AC has to fight the high temperature of my attic. My attic also needs atleast an other 6 inches of insulation.
