I may have found a superbird today

So...the day stared out, I headed to lowe's motor speedway to the auto fair, which is a huge classic car swap meet...well was, now it's more car show than swap meet. I was looking for a model A for for a project car. I took a guy who use to work for me with. He snapped a pic of a superbird, because it was funny looking and put it on his Facebook. I be damn one of his friends commented "my neighbor has one of those" so we come back from charolette, go to where the car is said to be, the guy isn't home, but his wife is. I ask her if her husband has a old car with a huge wing on it. She says " yeah he has one, but it's ugly as hell". So she takes me out to their shop, opens the door, and behind a farm all tractor....there it sits. Blue with a black top. I dont know if it's a 69 or 70...or what motor/tranny is in it. I didnt want to move the guys stuff to grt to it with him not being there. But I left my number and asked when he be back. All she could tell me was "no telling during hunting season". She said he traded for it in the 80's for something and had that god awful ugly car ever since. Of course I asked her if it was for sale, she said she wanted it gone, but he said its worth a lot. I told her to tell her husband if the car checks out, I'd make him a very reasonable offer on it.

Just as is the case now, there were replicas in the 80s also. It's still a sought after car, just be careful and be sure to verify numbers. Either way, with a 440 six-pack or a 426 Hemi you can't go wrong.

I know about the clones, the vin will have to check out and all that. Even if it is a clone, it's still a really nice charger...it kind of shocked me to see, but old NASCAR related stuff shows up all the time around here. After looming at the bird, I went on another car lead I had, and I be damn if there wasn't a #18 interstate battery monte Carlo just sitting in a field

But if it's real, I already got someone lined up to buy it. He gave me a price he would pay no motor, with motor non matching, and a matching #car with either 4 speed stick 2/3 speed auto, 440, 6 pack, and hemi....so I know what I can comfortably offer for the car, he said condition wasn't really important, because to get top dollar, it would have to be fully restores unless it's a survivor, and if it is, I'll sell it my self

That's a pretty cool find. I always loved the Superbirds. Even though some might say the wing is gaudy, I think it's perfect for the car. I hope it works out either way for ya, but be sure to snap some pics for us!

Finally talked to the guy this morning. Didn't dig the car out..didn't have to. He said its a true 440 6 pack auto car, but did need restored. I asked "will you sell" he told me in the 60's, well that ended negation right there. That was top of the budget for a hemi car. I think he's watched too much Barrett Jackson, as I saw a restored 440 bird at the auto fair for $150,000 with no offers. So nothing left for me at $60,000. So I gave him my buyers number and told him to gie him a call. The man was nice though, a put me on a lead for a couple of model a fords(which is what I've been looking for) so iam headed to try to pick up one or a couple of those. I'll go over to his shop again and snap pics of the superbird

Cool that's it's real, but not cool that the owner has a pipe dream of an asking price. You should have tried to give his wife $20,000 for it the first time. Kidding, of course.

Unfortunately most classic cars are rotting away in yards and shops because the owners have these crazy ideas that they are worth way more than they are in their condition.

There is one guy with a 60s model nova rotting away near my dad and he won't sell for under $6k. The motor is locked up, The tires are dry rotted, the paint is gone, the trunk in rotting through, and the floors will need replaced too.

I hope to get my hands on one of my wife's grandfather's cars when he passes. One is a 67 buick wildcat and the other is a 67 buick electra. He bought both new in 67 and have had them garage kept all their lives.

Since he's been sitting on it for so long, chances are he's not really looking to sell it... so he gave a high price that he would've accepted to part with the thing.
But yeah, $60k when you'd be looking to flip it... not good. Not in this economy, anyway! Though I guess the people that have money to spend on luxuries like restoration projects are still spending.
That's cool that he pointed you in the right direction for a model A, though. At least something good came of it!

I didn't realize those cars went for so much! I'm pretty sure there's one driving around my area. Orange and black. Nice looking from a distance, but I'm pretty sure I noticed a few flaws when I got a closer look. It's probably a clone, and a poorly restored one at that.
I always think of Joe Dirt and his hoopty...
I know it's a Charger Daytona, but close enough

A couple years ago, i had to travel to Colorado (south of Colorado Sprinds around Pueblo) and to the Phoenix area with my work. In the evenings after work, my buddy from work and I would drive around sightseeing. It was amazing seeing some of the old cars sitting around with little or no rust. In Phoenix, i seen a mid sixties mustang sitting in the middle of a vacant lot, appeared to have been there for years. No rust just faded paint. Thats just one example. Each day i would see at 5 cars that people in the southeast would do anything to get their hands on. So yes, there is a few classics still out there.

I did offer her $20,000. She was laughing, till I pulled it out my pocket and showed it to her. At $20,000 it would of come home with me.

The model a lead kind of paned out, the only model a was a truck, but there were 14 other cars there..the newest was a 62 impala....but they wer all4 door except a 57 Chevy truck and a kick ass 57 Plymouth wagon. The guy who owns them is suposta come to my shop in the morning. Most of the cars are to far gone, but I really would like the wagon, as it was all there and I know where another one is. Iam going to try and buy them all,if he will sell, then spend the week pulling any salvageable parts..then hate to say it...scrap them to get my money back, leaving me with the wagon and model a truck for parts...then I can look for a much rougher model a Tudor knowing I got a good cowl and doors

The event everyone around here everyone is waiting on is the guy who's family owned the local ford dealership till the 70's to pass (yeah that sounds bad) rumor has it he
Has a Csx cobra. He has been in bad health, and his family has sold off a few of the 427 side oiler motors he had horded. Ive had people tell me they have actually seen the cobra

guy that my shop built a motor for rolled by in his model a truck with a 03 cobra swap. he says that thing is just as fast as any other stock cobra out there.

i like the trucks but unfortunately its not really a truck that you "use"
