    Anybody here like classical music?

I love it, and I don't mean I went to Barnes and noble and bought a 'Mozart's top ten jamz of 1778' cd. I actually listen to the stuff. I'm a classically trained violinist so music and my car are pretty much my only two interests. I'm curious, does anyone here actually listen to classical music? Example: I woke up this morning at 715am-ish and turned on Jean Sibelius' violin concerto which I'm listening to again. My roommate is probably not pleased with the volume I have it turned up to.

I do on occasion, but I wouldn't say I'm an avid listener. My old music theory teacher had a lot of respect for Bach, so I tend to feel the same. The other big names all have stuff that I like... Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin. I enjoy Smetana as well, though he's lesser known to the general population.

Props for knowing who Smetana is! currently listening to Tchaikovsky's piano concerto in b flat. Good stuff. I figured not many would listen to it, but it was worth a shot to ask. Certainly some member on here is also an avid listener. I always find it funny when guys roll into the local car meets and are blasting some rap stuff and I'm over here rolling in blasting my classical like, yeah this Brahms is my jam. I always get funny looks for that. Can't imagine why?

Every time I'm with my dad he has the public radio station and they're always playing classical music. I can't say I enjoy it to the extent that I'll go and download songs, but I certainly don't mind it. Much better than the pop stations my brother listens to.

Even though it's not my cup of tea, as a lover of music, I really appreciate the time and effort they put into their work back then and I know it could not have been easy.

It's surprising how much you can hear in a good piece once you understand what you're listening to.
People today are conditioned to understand such simple music that the subtleties of classical music escapes most of them. Not that modern music is bad... but its very different. It's like comparing buffalo wings to something rather bland with many subtle flavors. Someone who eats nothing but wings will likely have little appreciation for the subtle flavors without regular exposure.

Nicely put. Couldn't have said it better myself.

Zman: there's definitely a time and a place for everything. Judging by your signature I'm guessing you're a deadmau5 fan. I love deadmau5. His new album that came out in September is awesome. but I'm sure you already know that.
