    for you computer geeks......

    i have a problem with the comp...ok so when ever i see a good picture online and i want to save it to the comp....i right click save as...but when that box comes up it only gives me 2 options of formats i can save the pic at.........1)art and 2)bitmap....now i dont care cause i can always convert them to jpeg later BUT the problem is when i try to reopen the picture where i saved it no program at all can open it. i try every program that supports pictures files in my comp and nothing works. anyone have an idea whats up?

      you need to download a pic program to opens pics, so then it becomes a default when you save your pics off the sites, cause then you'll be able to open them at a later time, i.e i have quicktimes, picture viewer and so on.

        When you go to save it.. instead of selecting one of the options to allow a file format... just type in ".jpg" and in most cases it will save it in JPG.

            AOL and IE? Get Mozilla's firefox!!! It owns. I dunno about the pics, thats screwy, but don't use AOL if you value your computer at all, its the biggest piece of shit ever.

                  in IE does it do it?
                  aol owns the .art format so thats why they try to make you use it.

                    yea i remember when i used to have aol (back in the day) it would always save it as a bitmap (bmp) file. then i made the switch to IE and now FireFox. in firefox it usually saves it as .jpg or whatever extension it is on the website. but to open up .bmp files, you can set a certain type of program to open it.

                    1. Go into Control Panel (If you have windows XP, switch the control panel to "classic view")

                    2. Double click folder options

                    3. Click the "file types" tab and scroll down to bmp.

                    4. Hit the "change" button

                    5. Select the program you want to use to open that file

                    6. Hit ok to the prompts and everything should be fine after that

                    let me know what happens

                      Lol, yeah, i dunno why people dont understand that AOL has to be the biggest pos, and waste. You pay double what anyone else does just to have it screw up your computer. You will NEVER see anyone that is halfway computer literate using AOL and there is a reason for that. AIM from aol is getting just as bad... taking up all the memory, screwing w/the computer.

                      Its kinda like the people that buy a chevy... have to return it, have stuff break, recalls, all on a *brand new* car, yet they still swear that chevy is the best.

                        hey brown i did what you said and it didnt work. the weird thing is that if i save the pic as a bmp or art if you click on the properties it says its a jpeg! how the freak does that happen. but it has nothing to do with aol because like i said before my freind has aol and she saves pics and can see them normal with the same viewing program i have...

                            i suggest you switch over to another ISP, AOL has gotten worse and worse after 5.0... If you already have verizon, try their DSL service... its 30 bucks a month for 3mb down/768k up... which translates to about 300+ kb/s if conditions are perfect.
