i hate getting sick... help doc

well since tuesday ive been sick. as of yesterday my temp was up to 103. this morning when i woke up it was down to about normal, but as the day went on its been hovering around 100. i feel better, but i have a sorethroat now. i tried doing a google search, but i dont have the energy to read much. im wondering, if my health is better now, is it just the sorethroat that is affecting my temperature.

    Strep.

Go get amoxicillin 850mg from your doctor. It'll knock it out in 12 hours.

and just relax.. moving around and being active will make it worse. when you begin to feel sick, drink a lot of grape juice. it's shown to help prevent viruses and the flu from doing more harm to the body.

i always drink it when i feel like i'm getting sick and it seems to work all the time.

about the strept throat thing, gargle warm salt water. about 1 1/2 tsp of salt in a cup of warm water. gargle it, spit it out then rest. do it once every hour or so. call me in the morning.

well, its official, im an idiot. i was feeling better today so i went to the beach for a while. i thought i was covered pretty well and stayed out of sunlight... but i was wrong. my face didnt get burnt badly, but its noticably red... i feel like such a little kid asking, but can a sunburn raise your temp as well? i was normal this morning, and i felt alot better, i was even getting my appetite back so i ate a few dogs at the beach... but now i have this warm sensation from my shoulders up mostly, and my temp is up at 102!!!!

did i just get myself sick again, or is it just cause of the sunburn?

assuming it's strep, amoxicillin is one of the choices, though i prefer azithromycin (shorter course of therapy- 10 days of amoxicillin 2 or 3 times per day versus 5 days of azithromycin once a day).

in any case, it could be viral (80% of sore throats are viral), it could be strep, it could be mononucleosis (mono)... or something else altogether.

what i'd tell you to do is go to the doctor and get a rapid strep test (swab at the back of your throat) that comes back in a few days, and to get a blood test (test for antigens that strep produce) to see if you indeed have strep throat or not. if indeed you have strep throat, then you need treatment.

the treatment isn't so much about treating the sore throat, is it is about preventing future complications (scarlet fever and endocarditis).

could be a number of reasons that you have an elevated temperature... you may not have actually been fully recovered (even though you felt better), food poisoning (hot dogs at the beach), overexposure... idk.

If its strep and its not taken care of it could turn into scarletina (red blotches on warm parts of body such as armpits, in your drawers), and further develop into scarlet fever (red blotches everywhere). All have temps between 100 and 104. Get it under control before it becomes something really serious.

No matter which one you get, expect your fingers and possibly toes to peel about a week after you're cured.

                      Not fun and good luck.

scarlatina and scarlet fever are one in the same.

My mistake. I thought it was two degrees of severity of the same kind of disease.

                          I stand corrected.
